T4 to L5 open spinal fusion - 34 degree scoliosis curve

What was the pain level after surgery?
How long did it take until you can get up and walk?
How long until the pain subsides?
I understand it can be a year before you feel "normal" again.
How often does this just lead to other pain and problems?
How many feel it was the only choice !
Would you do it again?

Hi @rwdixon4
A a year ago, I had a surgery on the bottom of my back with part of my small part of my bone atop of my nerve wire. It was on the top of my rear-end to the bottom of my back. During that, he - my doctor - fixed during 6 pieces - tiny - over my large bone under that large nerve from hitting that.

My pain was gone. I set at my hospital for the 5 day then sent home. During that hospital was pretty was good foods.

It took me 6+ mths during this back-holder daily. That pain was already gone, but my back wasn’t fixed 100% back of normal use age. Its back, but3 years ago before I feel down from my rear-ends and took from my rear-ends to the bottoms of my feet.

Today, I work on my right less-feeling of my foot. It’s better than 2 mths ago, by walking a little by itself than using the 4-roller.

Thx

Hi I have the same T4-L5 . 55 degree curve. About 26 months ago. Right after surgery was painful but the meds were good. Slept a lot the first 4-5 days. I was walking I thinking day 4 at first just to the bathroom, across the room each day a little more (with a walker). I went to rehab after a week and started getting up more. Pain was down still had pain pills (oxy). I went home after 1 week in rehab. And started PT. Pain was much better mostly taking tramadol. About 5 months after surgery I flew to Colorado and was able to walk through the airport on my own. Before surgery I had to use a wheelchair.
Now I have very little pain occasionally. Tylenol
Yes it was worth it, I had no other choice.
Definitely would do it again but wish it had been sooner.
About problems after so far I have been very fortunate not to have any. I know things can happen. My back was so bad any improvement would have been better then the way I was.
Hope this helps

I wish you an absolutely perfect outcome! And I pray mine will be the same. I'm scheduled for T10 to pelvis with bi-lat hip anchors on Feb 9th and beyond frightened and unsure if I can go forward with it

I am also beyond frightened and unsure if I can go forward with it, I just look at how I am now and know I can't go on this way "The quality of life is next to ~0~ it's just not there & it can be fixed so I have to go forward to make life better💕!

@judyhendricks1959 I totally understand your fear. Use this forum to ask the questions that are sticking in your brain and make sure you have your home set for your return and the support you will need. The surgery - if you trust your surgeon - is the least thing to worry about.

@rwdixon4 praying for your fears to be calmed, and you go from 0 to hero in your quality of life.

@karenoharmon I'm not even sure how to "set up" my home for when I get home AND the pain is what frightens me the most - that and possible failure of the procedure and what I'll be stuck with (even more disability?)
I have so many questions - I'll just start with those 2 for now
