Oral liken planus

Does anyone else have OLP lesion on lower lip? So difficult to eat... Dr google says it very rare for it to be on the lip. Maybe it lip cancer??

Oral lichen planus does occur on the lip and other areas can be affected by LP as well. It is usually followed for treatment by a dermatologist or oral surgeon.
If you you are concerned about it becoming precancerous a simple shave biopsy can be performed
Have you discussed the diagnosis
with your doctors. What treatment have you tried?
If you have had lots of sun exposure
then you should be examined regularly for follow up.

I have OLP also. I also have LP on my skin and I unfortunately have Esophageal Lichen Planus which is incredibly rare.
OLP and ELP are autoimmune diseases. The autoimmune system is attacking the mucus membranes in the body.
My specialist told me that if the OLP starts to go outside of my mouth he will need to send me to an autoimmune specialist. If it goes into the lips it may spread into the face. A Rheumatologist is also an autoimmune specialist. (Most people think a Rheumatologist only treat conditions like arthritis. But, for example Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease.)
Take care!❤️

Oral and topical steroids. Mouthwashes, Yada, yada. Nothing helps. I could live with mouth stuff, but lip lesion is the worst. My diet is so limited!

@shelby29 Oral Lichen Planus and Esophageal Lichen Planus is bad enough so I can only imagine the. Pain and discomfort you must be going through, with the lip lesion. Have you had a biopsy done? Are you seeing an oral pathologist? Better to consult an oral pathologist than Dr. Google.

@sadea0208 I also have oral lichen planus and esophageal lichen planus. I seem to now have a lesion on inside of lower lip. What treatment have you received for these areas? Especially interested in esophageal treatment.

Oral and topical steroids, numerous washes...nothing has helped me at all. As per some recommendations on here, I'm trying CBD oil next for the pain...

@shelby29 dermatologists and ENTs could not help me, neither did dentists and periodontists. It was an oral pathologist’s whose was the most effective for me. But do see the ENT because hopefully a proper diagnosis will be found through him.

I also have OLP - 7 years now after quit smoking! and VLP (Vaginal Lichen Planus) - had over 15 years. They are both autoimmune diseases that most people have never heard of and turns out, quite a few doctors and others in medical community never heard of either. Luckily, these diseases eb & flow i.e. no problems for weeks or months and then bam, major flare up. You will find this website and discussion group is extremely helpful - make sure to go back and read prior posts and to search for your condition on other posts.

When my OLP first showed up (very chapped & peeling lower lips, angular chelitis and sores inside mouth) my dentist (over 40 years experience) had never seen anything like. He tried to check with local dermatologists but nobody knew about!! Ended up being referred to UF (University of Florida) dental college in Gainesville. 120 miles round trip (3 hours) but they have been awesome. Double cheek biopsy confirmed OLP. Now have annual follow up with specialist who prescribes Dexamethasone Elixir (steriod rinse) for "flare ups". Research shows acid is irritant to OLP - also mint & cinnamon can bet triggers (99% dental products have one of these) but there are options out there i.e. Happy Tooth Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste (has Vanilla Frosting flavor) on Amazon. I really miss fruit juices - apple is actually more acidy than orange juice! Need to give up coffee because it can really irritate lips and mouth.

My lower lip is constantly chapped and peeling. When have flare up, get sore blisters. Always keep prescription active for Triamcinolone Acetonide - dental paste for treatment of oral lesions. MY OLP doctor says do NOT get OLP on lips - must be sun damage but my SS (Sjorgens Syndrome) doctor at UF say many of her SS patients also have OLP on their lips. I will double check next visit with my dermatologist.

For daily comfort - there are tons of lip balms out there but I like Dr Dan's Cortibalm - treatment for severe chapped lips - comes in chapstick or tub) available at Walmart or Amazon. Vaseline ok too but greasy.

Make sure to use soft (or post surgical extra soft) toothbrushes. Make sure use non alcohol mouthwashes. If mint washes irritate you, try CloSys - they make Ultra Sensitive unflavored mouth rinse.

Good luck on your journey. We are all here for you.
