Has anyone else started a red dot with MAI meds?

Posted by roslynroslyn @roslynroslyn, Sep 29 1:56pm

After a month on meds, suffering from severe constipation and lack of sleep, I have now developed a red pinpoint body rash. (torso, legs and ankles too).
Anyone else experience that?

@roslynroslyn At the emergency department, the triage nurse will determine severity. Given what you've described it sounds serious, especially if it's vasculitis, as described above. You don't need anymore problems than you already have! Let someone at least take a look at you. You can always leave. ED's ebb and flow -- they are not always as busy as we remember. Wear a mask and something to read or do in case you have a small wait. Keep us posted! We are all worried for you!

@roslynroslyn got home at 4:50 am. Emergency dr ordered specialized blood test and told me to come back this am. I’m here now to see allergist and allergy/ immunologist. Will be a long morning 😟but I’m happy they coordinated everything.
Thank you all☺️

@roslynroslyn Sorry to hear about the long night but relieved to know you’re getting medical attention. Will you keep your Thursday appointment with ID doc?

Thanks for keeping us posted. By documenting and sharing your experience, you’ve done a great service to others here who may have similar side effects from meds.

@scoop
I’m waiting in emergency for the ID dr now. Saw allergist this morning. I don’t know how to attach photo of rash but every doctor is shocked. That says something.

@scoop allergist and infectious diseases said stop meds (which I had) try reactin or Benadryl. I take the latter.
Cortisone cream
1 for face… 1 for torso.
He said no danger now that it’s been checked. (Many blood tests). If any changes, come back to emergency. I spent 12 hrs in emergency over the last 20 hrs. I’m exhausted but happy I went. My little Chi wasn’t so happy.
Everything in one place😊

These aren’t clear. Hard to take pics of rash. It’s getting worse before it will get better 😢

I was on rifampin, azithromycin, and ethambutol for Mac. after a month( i developed pinpoint rash(petechiae). they found my ptt labs were out of whack and took me off rifampin. rash went away and i continued on other two drugs for a little over a year with little problem.

@crepass
Curious to know, Did the 2 drugs get rid of your MAC?
