Knee Brace Irritation

Posted by grrranny @grrranny, Sep 22, 2025

Been doing PT the last couple months since stroke 4 months ago, and the knee brace my orthopedic doc gave me has just started to rub a place on the inside of my left knee, in spite of wearing it over my workout pants. What can be done besides applying Aquaphor ointment? Any padding that might work?

As promised, the Executive and her team did fast walk it through and I was approved for surgery on Monday morning and my surgeon will be replacing my knee on Wednesday. But how many patients know how to move the levers of power like I did.

I know knee replacements are supposed to be tough but I have a great surgeon and I have set myself an aggressive target. My golf course closes for overseeding on October 6th and reopens November 7th. My target is to be able to play golf by then.

@steveinarizona you have to be your own advocate ! Good for you !

I have had to fight our health care system too , I’ve called til they’re so tired of me they put my case up to the top .

Now you can relax and wait to feel better 💕

My custom brace came with a protective sleeve, sort of like yoga pants material.

Unfortunately, mine kept slipping down my leg so I have stopped using it and have my surgery in two days.

@steveinarizona some of those sleeves are too short and are just barely the size of the brace. When the sleeve is much longer than the brace you can fold over the material at the top of the brace to keep everything in place and it keeps the brace from sliding.

Try using a Bracesox. I wore knee bracing for 40 years (no longer bc I have a new total knee that is fantastic). It is an American Made Product too. IF you google Bracesox you should find it

Ugh. Insurance should not be a for-profit business. They make money only when they deny us.

I had my Total Knee surgery approved, had my surgery and then after the surgery they decided to deny it. It was a complete mess and terrifying to go through.

I like your attitude, I think you will be able to play golf in November, even though you might have to use a golf club as a cane part-time!
Be sure to check in and let us know how the surgery and recovery go for you!

Actually, I played golf on the 27th day after my surgery. I said I had a great surgeon. Well...I had no post surgery pain, He installed a very very rare bicruciate retaining implant for me, fixed my severe misalignment with a Functional alignment. His recovery protocol is for me to be a couch potato for the first week, then commence some activities and begin physical therapy in the third week. I followed his plan. In that third week my therapist measured my ROM at 122.

@alongtheriver, that’s insane!

Use a large , thick bandaid over the sore spot. It helped me. Also, the orthotic PA put a small cushion on the brace where the brace was rubbing
