Stem Cell Therapy for Arthritic Knees
I am a 77 year old woman with arthritic knees where it's difficult for me to walk and I'm trying to avoid knee replacement. I have done the Synvisc injections and physical therapy-- to no avail. Is there anyone here who has had stem cell therapy for arthritic knees and I would like to know your outcome. I know there are two, one where bone marrow is removed and the other where they take fat from the abdomen and regenerate and inject into the knees. I would like to know the cost and how long the procedure takes and any other information which would be helpful to me. I live in North Jersey and am currently looking for clinics in my area who perform this procedure. I appreciate your help.

Hey Cindy - this is an excellent summary of how robotic assisted TKR is done. The surgeon controls the cutting arm. The software, using the 3D model as a guide, will only let the surgeon cut the areas identified to be cut (usually osteophytes). As bone is removed, it is cleared on a screen the surgeon is looking at. The best part of this is that it prevents the accidental cutting of a tendon or ligament, and only cuts as much bone as necessary.
"Robotic" is misleading. It's like the surgeon is outside having a cigarette while a robot does the work. Software or 3D-assisted are better terms. Branding is a problem for these companies.....

Hey BustedThumb - have you considered getting your knees replaced? You mention you are "way overweight" so it would be helpful to lose a few pounds before any surgery. But extra weight also is hard on the knees, ankles, feet. I'm telling you stuff you know, so just a suggestion.
I was about 35 lbs overweight (5'10", 190 lbs) when I had my knees replaced. Everything went fine. That was in 2022. I have since lost 35 lbs, down to 155 lbs, and feel much better.
I know it's hard to do this, so I'm not preaching. All the best to you.
