How to cope with stress/anxiety, waiting for PSA blood test
I was diagnosed prostate cancer six years ago. I had my prostate surgically removed. Each year about this time I go for a PSA blood test. for some reason, the stress and anxiety for me this year is unbelievable. It’s keeping me awake. I think about it constantly. I have my test on Wednesday. Is there a suggest to help me deal with the ridiculous stress? I’m going through right now? Thank you for your help. Appreciate it.

@jimgaudette thank you for your reply. Best of luck to you!
@northoftheborder My oligometastatic cancer metastasized to my sacrum. It was radiated and I was put on Lupron and Abiraterone for three years and am still castrate sensitive. This past year I have been off ADT and my testosterone is returning. I have had PSA < .1 for four years now. My Gleason score was 3+5. I think that your doctor may have been seeing your situation somewhat negatively based on my personal experience, or maybe doesn’t want to build false hope. Personally, hope keeps me going and dealing with whatever happens.

@psychometric
Hang in there and don't worry. You are starting a journey. Just go with the flow, knowing that each day is a blessing and each step is adding another day.
Good luck for a very long and happy journey.

When stress and anxiety start getting to you, try inhaling four counts and exhaling eight counts. Repeat four to sixteen times. Another method to lower your cortisol and adrenaline (the stress hormones) is to lie on your back or sit in a comfortable position with your eyes closed and slowly relax your toes, your feet, your ankles etc up to your neck, your jaw, the back of your head, the top of your head, your forehead, your eyelids and then your eyes. Stay here as long as you feel comfortable. These exercises stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system which is your rest and digest system.

2 Reactions@philh59 did you get results yet !? hoping PSA is still slow and low !! ( for all of us !...)
I think many of us are ' here' because about 10-15 yrs ago, the mantra about PC testing was "if you are older, its no big deal.. they dont even treat it!" and during many of my annual physicals, they did not do PSA/DRE..I wondered why ..I know my PSA tests became sporadic..but always around 1 ( since I was early 40s) when i did get one and was assured I would never have anything to worry about...
that is until May 2025...when I went in for my annual check up for my kidney stone problem from a yr earlier- also I was curious about testostrone patches for workouts..PSA came back in 40's..then a few weeks later 2nd test was low 50's...MRI then the bad news..I was floored...luckliy I didn just buy the patches on line..which I started to do !
Hi , thanks you fir your reply. No results yet. I am expecting them at some point this afternoon. I wish you the best of luck!
