Very bad neck pain, possibly misdiagnosed as cervical dystonia
Hello after I do 2 walks in a row or more on 2 different days I have tense neck muscles which cause serious pain and I will for sure wake up on the 2nd night with an incredible whey seems like a headache but it's the neck muscles in a tight, almost spasm. Already had 50 units of botox type A in the neck however they have only stopped the intense spasms but not the pain. Seeing a neurologist in 2 weeks. Have to dose myself with anti inflammatory medication and robaxin to ease it. Every time I see a doctor I get a different opinion on what to do and who to see from biokinetisist (spelling) to neurologist. Has anyone else had this type of thing and what was the most effective treatment? The walks are only about 9000 steps on a flat promenade. I'm hoping the neuro will help me. Thanks in advance

Very wise of you. Most people don’t realize there is such thing as a “trap”. But it’s a business that keeps on giving.
I mean even look at this forum, it’s sponsored by Mayo. Which makes it more “safe” feeling when asking health questions on a forum. But it’s under tone is promoting the business of the Mayo Clinic,
Anyhow- good on you for putting in your own physical work to attempt to feel better.
Good luck!

2 ReactionsI live with cervical dystonia, I’m currently treated for it with Botox injections. It really helps so much with the tenseness especially my doctors located in my neurologist office that does the treatment. I highly recommend it. It literally feels like the weight has been lifted off your shoulders after treatment. Definitely worth looking into sending prayers that you feel better and find relief soon.

2 ReactionsYeah I just had the neuro, I have static Torticollis. Unfortunately I was injected with botox at the start of the month but it was far too little by a GP. So December he will do it properly. He said that after one or two treatments he sees a lot of patients go into a remission. Glad this night mare is over
Find a GREAT MFR therapist. Have a couple sessions and they can help direct you. That is my advice from having cervical dystonia/tortecollis/degenerative disc condition in my cervical spine and myo-muscular issues since I was 12, now age 68. The botox can be very helpful. But I chose to stop and strengthen the muscles that would weaken during the botox paralysis. I had surgery when i could no longer be out of screaming pain and using my arms, shoulders and neck. My surgeon (you should see an orthopedic surgeon and start at the foundation of your body structure). He did not want to do surgery but he was talked into it. He had to. BUT, the myomuscular part of it is still there. I am told by many WISE doctors that I will have this condition for the rest of my life. BUT the pain due to the vertebral compression is gone, so I can work and put up the Halloween decorations again! (VERY IMPORTANT to keep me happy!) I go to an MFR therapist twice a month and I am strengthening my shoulders, back and neck as best as I can. You -- and everyone --- should know --- this isn't a science. It takes many years to figure out how to treat this. And you must do your part as your own advocate.
It was heartbreaking to learn that the soreness/stiffness wouldn't go away and I still had to deal with it after surgery. A lot of these things you are going thru (treatments) are diagnostic SO KEEP A RECORD so you can tell the other docs what worked and what didn't. Very important when dealing with this over time. They won't look into your records. You have to remind them.
And a PS - take the diagnosis and be GRATEFUL! Why? Because cervical dystonia allows for the rest of the treatments and services to be MEDICALLY covered!!! Even the MFR!
