Sudden hearing loss after a long flight
I had a bit of a cold and congestion. 2 flights to get home. A couple of things I noticed. #1. The temp in the 1st plane was bone chilling #2 While listening to a movie, my right ear bud fell out. While trying to retrieve it, I noticed there was no sound in my left. I tried another set, still no sound in the left ear. Thinking that it must be the congestion I really didn't pay much attention. I lost hearing in the same ear before, but it lasted less than a day before the hearing returned. It's funny, my hearing test after that 1st hearing loss, 2 days after the hearing returned my Dr said the test results were better than my last test about a year ago.
Back to the present. 4 days after the flight I visited the Urgent Care, they said I had Estuchian tube dysfunction and I did a regime of Claritin-D (7days) and Afrin nasal spray (3 days) with zero results. The next week (now day 10) I saw my ENT, he hooked me up with another hearing test. 90% loss in noise recognition in the left ear (My Apple Phone Hearing Test confirmed that, LOL). We have started a protocol of 4 injections (2 already have, 2 to go) and Prednisone (into day 6 of 14 days) with zero improvement. I also have been experiencing more frequent spells of dizziness and a relentless ringing!!! UGH!

I think you and I are on the same page. I am 61 and only 2 months since total SSHL in my left ear. I've had the oral steroids, three shots and accept this as permanent. I get along OK and am not inclined to look into hearing aids now and have been told to wait at least six months anyway to give myself time to adjust.
It's the damned dizziness that will not subside and it's driving me up a wall. Reading your post is a glimpse into my near future - I suspect that most of it will fade but not all.
You just go to bed one night and wham ................
The dizziness maybe taken care of. I went to a specialist that uses an Epley Chair that rotates you in any and every direction. They actually have a camera on one eye as they do this and can focus the treatment. The 1st treat I had 3-4 days of relief and after the dizziness was not nearly as constant. 2 weeks ago I did a 2nd treatment and now I feel dizzy free!!!
Today I ordered CROS hearing aids, thank god I had insurance, but still cost me $3K. I have 60 days to try them out. Shouldn't be bad, I am so used to wearing Apple AirPods. My concern is safety. I like to listen to music when bike riding. I would only wear one on the right ear so my left would be able to acknowledge if anyone is passing me. I have been wearing a Shokz bone conductive headset(nothing is over or inside the ear) and that works okay. Still not as safe as having both ears working. That is why I have decided to go with the CROS Hearing aids.
The biggest aggravation is this damn ringing 24hrs a day.
