Spinal Cord Stimulator Removal
My Medtronics SCS stopped working after about three years. A NEVRO rep talked me into having one of theirs implanted. They had to use an adapter to connect Nevro unit to Medtronics lead. As a result, I cannot have an MRI. Also, the Nevro did not help at all. I would like to have all the SCS stuff removed (or, at least, the NEVRO battery replaced with a Medtronics) so I can have the MRI that my pain specialists seem to want very badly. Anyone out there have this experience this?

Hello Hazel,
Did you get my PM.
Hope you are recovering.
I had a nerve stimulation and the leads kept moving. Surgery is not too painful. I'd be sure you ask for sedation.
My SCS had a paddle lead that was sutchured in place so it could not move. Of course that didn’t prevent some of the electrodes from eventually burning out.
You were fortunate, my removal was excruciating...we all have different experiences but yes one def needs sedation and an experienced Dr. I refused to let my pain Dr do removal and requested it be done by a surgeon.
I hear you. I guess it's ok to let pain doc do trial, but, yes, you need a surgeon to implant and/or remove those buggers. Sorry to hear you had so much pain. What's next for you? I'm still trying to find relief from my pain pump. Have a blessed day.
I honestly dont know. Drs keep pushing Cymbalta and Pregabalin at me. Also i tried Gabapentin but im sure i have nerve damage so get little relief and im afraid of the side effects.
For me the worst part of all this is t g e battery pack situation.
It caused severe pain from day one and the pain from removal is almost unbearable. Due its location i have great difficulty eating.
When im more healed im going to try a more holistic approach. My local Memorial hospital know me well and are suggesting Integrative Medicine, which is more in line with my desired approach.
I think when one has a overly sensitized nervous system recovery, if possible, is lengthy and arduous.
Its so sad, due Medical error so many of us end up in worse pain than before.
I hope you can find relief also. I try to stay Positive but on days with severe pain, its hard. Best wishes to us all.
How’s things , here my experience with Medtronic, I had a spinal cord stimulator fitted in 2014 , due to chronic pain from an assault, I was attending a consultant in pain clinic, he was a gentleman guy ..in 2018 he left his employment, I was never informed he was gone , I was suffering chronic pain even after getting the device fitted , then they started playing around with the setting, then the device would not charge , they I was giving a new led to charge the device, it stopped working again , then a Metronic manager came to reset in hospital, I was told the battery need to be changed it worked that even in 2019 , when fooling around with the setting they drove pain up my face and around my ear and ear , one side of my head , it stopped working completely.. in 2o19 .. in 202o the 2nd consultant left but I asked him for an scan cause there is something wrong big time he gave the scan that day , I thought he was going to read it ..but 3 .5 months later the 3rd consultant rang me 2 weeks before Christmas and said he looked at the scan and asked me ,did I get a stroke . I relped your the doctor not me . ,, I asked consultant why ring me now and tell me 2 weeks before Christmas…. He claimed it only landed on his desk now .. and to come down straight away to hospital.. I said no because there will be no consultants working over Christmas,?and ye did not care about me for the last 3 months ,? Ok said consultant we do it after Christmas. In 2022 In February , I was transferred to a stroke doctor, a and then a heart specialist because of my hight blood pressure due to the chronic pain .. In September 2024? Consultant removed the Metronic stimulator, I did say to the consultant what about the device being put back to the original setting as the pain is still in my face and back of my eye ,? He went as quite as a mouse when I said this, then disappeared out of the hospital room , and a nurse came in ,? And tryed her best to down play it … I was always concerned about this ,?I woke up the next day with the device removed in September 2024 … This gets better 2 weeks later I was chatting to a professor in a medical college, I outlined my situation, he told me , that in 2016 the Medtronic stimulator I had fitted with that model number was recalled world wide by the FDA . And the health services and the hospital and the consultants never told me any of this . My pain is still chronic worse on my face and around the back of my eye .. in which I never had any problems with before … And the final straw was in 2o25 August,? I got a second big stroke due to pain in my neck face and eye due to Medtronic team adjustment of the stimulator in 2019… My opinion of Metronic they have not got a clue, and I ended up having to strokes from there carry on and Metronic fitted a faulty device to my body without informing me in 2016 that that device specifically was recalled.. so thank you Medtronic for destroying my life,?and causing worse harm to my mental health and stopping me from making a living.. in my opinion.
Have nothing to do with Medtronic. There not a credible company in my personal experience and opinion.
Sorry about .. spelling .. and wording as I’m not able to write probably anymore .. caused by this company Medtronic.. in my opinion.
