Bladder conditions support: Introduce yourself and connect

Posted by Kelly, Moderator @klp, Sep 26 4:08pm

Welcome to the bladder conditions support group on Mayo Clinic Connect.

This is a welcoming, safe place for anyone living with a bladder condition, like cystitis, UTIs, overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis or overactive bladder. You’re invited to share your experiences, ask questions big or small, and offer encouragement to others walking a similar path.

Please take these steps to participate in the group:
- Follow the group.
- Browse the topics.
- Use the group search to find answers to your questions.
- Introduce yourself.

No matter where you are in your journey — newly diagnosed, managing symptoms for years, or supporting a loved one — you’re invited to join the conversation and connect with others.

Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? What is your experience, or your loved one’s experience, living with a bladder condition? (i.e., what condition, how it’s managed)?

Do you have a question to ask or a story to share?

So let’s get connected. Take a moment and introduce yourself. If you’ve been managing a bladder condition, what’s one tip or coping strategy that has helped you most? And if you’re newer to this journey, what’s a question you’d like to ask the group?

I have an overactive bladder and am deal with it at the same time as a small brain tumor, which is frightening. Having been healthy all of my life, it is distressing to deal with health problems at age 79. BUT, I am grateful for the good life I have lead.

Hello! I have had bladder issues for a number of years, but just recently had InterStim implant. Things are going well and my trips to the bathroom have decreased by about 50%. I am so happy! Looking forward to getting out and doing more things and not being tied to the bathroom. Have any of you had InterStim?

I've been diagnosed with neurogenic bladder, although the doctor acknowledges there's no way of knowing for certain if the root problem is neurological. The symptoms, which began three years ago, are lower than average urine output, mild urinary retention, urgency, and nocturia.

The doctor's prescribed silodosin, which I've been using for the past year and a half. Generally, it works well, but not always.

Possibly the symptoms are related to my lumbar spinal stenosis, which is severe, and will eventually require a laminectomy. I guess time will tell.

My two concerns, for now, are: 1) why are there days when the silodosin doesn't work, and 2) what I should be expecting with respect to disease progression.

@dollyjaneprenzel Is your device Medtronic? If so have you contacted Medtronic along with your doctor? I was told that this happens sometimes, but it can be corrected with the Samsung device given to you after InterStim surgery. My understanding is that this device can be used to increase or decrease the stimulation as needed. I hope you get answers. Please let me know.
