After the visit

Posted by emoreno78 @emoreno78, Sep 25, 2025

Hello, I visited Mayo rheumatology in Jacksonville at the beginning of September. I got a diagnosis at my consult of dermatomyositis. I had an EMG and a CT after that in lab work as well. All results were in my portal before I left. It’s been three weeks and I still haven’t heard back from the doctor about starting treatment. I’ve sent letters to the portal and called patient experience but still have heard nothing. How long does it take to initiate treatment?

I was diagnosed almost 9 years ago he started treatment the day that I met my rheumatologist

@emoreno78 After a referral to endocrinology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, it took 3 months before an appointment was scheduled. It's my impression that specialties such as endocrinology and rheumatology are very busy and it can take some time to get an appointment.

I suggest calling rheumatology and asking about the status of an appointment. You also want to make sure that you are on their list for appointments. That's what I did and then was advised to call once a week to ask about cancellations and openings.

Does this help? Will you call today and ask about scheduling your appointment?

It sounds like you're the right things to contact Mayo about follow up. Only other suggestion I have is to call the appointment line, and ask if there is a order / request for a follow up appointment. If it is unclear, they can transfer or contact rheumatology for an answer.

This is not normal behavior. What does patient experience tell you to do? I would call them and say they’re trying to get a hold of you and I need some help to get this test done
Sorry to hear what is going on with you. I hope you could get some answers very soon.
Make phone calls until you get to the right person
Good luck

@naturegirl5 hi! I have actually already had the appointment and testing. It’s now been 3 weeks and I haven’t heard anything. I have called, messaged the portal, called patient experience and called to see if there was an order for the appointment. Still have heard nothing. I’m sitting here with a diagnosis and no treatment. Very frustrating!

Once when I was waiting for a return medical call, the call did not come through because the return call came from a different number that my phone privacy settings did not recognize. You might try checking your blocked phone calls. Just a thought in case it helps.
