@gravity3 , PC says he doesn’t know much about it.

Endocrinologist is a top one at a large teaching hospital. We have a long history and friendship as she’s treated my Type 1 diabetes for a long time, except for a couple years when she went out if network with my insurance.

At that tine, I was with endo at Duke. Great endo there too, But both say it’s not good to change the hormones since my body has now adjusted to being without them…..vascular changes I think. She’s always been forward thinking on other issues, imo. I said I was still interested based on what I had heard from progressive thinking female urologists. But, no luck on that front.

My gynecologist is also with a top teaching hospital and said no. Not advisable after menopause.

No doctor ever gave me an option of HRT. My primary during menopause was female.

It wasn’t until last year that I researched about HRT and estradiol. Now with male PCP. I had to ask for estradiol myself and he was glad to prescribe that, even with no symptoms.

I feel I wasn’t provided with options, despite my continued health screenings, pap tests, mammograms, etc. over the years. I was on oral contraceptives for many years. I am very fortunate that I never had menopause symptoms. I feel very healthy, have continued strong libido, healthy vaginal tissue and no bladder issues……so far. I’d like to keep it that way.

@celia16 hooray.5 thumbs up. Great outcome for you.

@celia16 @gravity3
So I use an estradiol patch at the lowest amount. Estradiol has benefits that outweigh a small risk of increased stroke. I have no other medical issues. But docs have discussed stopping HRT for many years, but agree to have me continue as that is my wish. I am surprised at all the negatives you received from the various docs you mention.

@celia16 keep advocating for your own health. It’s a collaborative effort

@celia16 - I'm 75, had partial hyst.at age 34, never given HRT, but did fine (except for hypothyroid). I have 2 docs in the family and have had 3 OB/GYN over the years. For some reason, Docs do not have much knowledge about hormones; even my ENDO doesn't want to try anything but levothyroxine. So I have researched it myself and came up with estradiol cream and progesterone cream, which help me sleep better. But now I've found wild yam cream and am trying that, to see what happens. Just saying: not much Doc help out there.
