Constant Pressure & Popping of Ears

Posted by bmolson17 @bmolson17, Sep 18 3:46pm

Hello! I've been struggling with Long Haul since 2020, and there is one particular issue that I haven't heard anyone else talk about: a constant pressure and need to pop of their ears.

It's not a ringing in my ears but rather a pressure that's always there, and when I try to pop my ears, it doesn't give me the relief many would feel. I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and if there are any treatments?

It could be a muscular issue because if I push on my SCM muscle, it seems to "open up" my ears, and I don't feel the need to pop them. But overall just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue.

Thanks!

Hi. I also have that pressure /some ear pain here and there and feel like I’m in a tunnel daily! My ears won’t really fully pop like u say and I have the long covid fatigue for the past 10 months ! It’s so draining. I’ve never been so disgusted because the drs have no clue one is trying really to help me. I’ve had so many tests done. So far what we’ve concluded is it can be long covid or it can be a rare ear issue called superior canal dehiscence syndrome. He’s not 💯 sold on either. He thinks it can be a combo of both maybe. I’ve taken tests which can show the rare ear issue but to help me with that he needs to be more sure because the remedy if surgery. That’s scary to me. So I’ve tried steroids because Covid is all about inflammation and they seemed to help a little when on them. Idk if you have this issue but I’m also very sensitive to sounds now. I can hear fine. It’s that I hear my own voice muffled and things sound too much. U do get some vertigo and some ringing in my right ear. I went to 3 ENT drs. And this is what I got …. Still very crappy and tired and so now I’ve read a lot on long covid and am trying the nic patch to help with the long covid fatigue so idk if it’ll help but I’m out of options. Idk what to do. I’m so depressed and tired daily. I try and do things but when I go loud places it bothers me and I feel sick lightheaded feeling. It’s very isolating.

I’ve only had the feeling for a couple weeks since having COVID. I have an autoimmune disease and have been on Prednisone for 4 years. I started a reduction program today. I’m pretty happy with my physicians, have a Rheumatologist, Pulmonologist and, Primary Care, who are working together.

I also have autoimmune issue. I think Covid is causing more Inflammation because when I’m on steroids I feel a little bit better. But then I go off of them and it’s not as good. Are you finding that your ears are sensitive to sound ? How long can you stay on prednisone for ?

I’ve heard of people being on Prednisone for 5 years or more. It’s a slippery slope!

Yes I imagine so. The prednisone lowers your immune system but my immune system is the reason for all of this inflammation so idk what to do anymore. I tried the nic patches but they gave me migraines after day 7. Ugh. Keep me updated thanks. 🙏🏽

@jostrowski74 Sorry for the late reply. Went to ER again. Have Anemia and the medicine side effects are awful. However, after a good ear cleaning, a prescription nasal spray and some time my ears have almost completely cleared. Hope this helps.

@johnnydale52 that’s good. 😊 What kind of nasal spray ? I’ve been trying everything. The drs say my ears don’t need cleaning.
