Knee Brace Irritation
Been doing PT the last couple months since stroke 4 months ago, and the knee brace my orthopedic doc gave me has just started to rub a place on the inside of my left knee, in spite of wearing it over my workout pants. What can be done besides applying Aquaphor ointment? Any padding that might work?

What does your doctor say about this. Are you able to get a replacement that would alleviate this problem?

2 ReactionsTry placing something between that side of your knee and the brace. I would get horrible rashes on the back of my knee from braces, even the slide-on kind. (I have some overly sensitive skin in some parts.) I finally found one that has a little piece of silky material behind my knee. I can wear the brace for hours and get no discomfort.

2 ReactionsMy custom brace came with a protective sleeve, sort of like yoga pants material.
Unfortunately, mine kept slipping down my leg so I have stopped using it and have my surgery in two days.

3 ReactionsThanks. everyone! Using a small absorbent cotton pad attached to my knee brace with adhesive backing today. Seems to help.

I was and am but Unitedhealthcare got in the way. They denied coverage on the grounds that it wasn't medically necessary. Bullcrap. I have spent the last two days yelling at my retirement plan and UHC. I finally got in touch with the Executive at UHC charged with overseeing its contract with the Arizona state retirement system and she says she and her clinical team are walking it through the appeal process. I expect, and am hoping, that it will be approved on Monday so I can have surgery on Wednesday.
If I don't get approved on the appeal, I plan on suing UHC for fraud and deceit, challenging its license at the state insurance department for the same reason and trying to get a seat on the retirement board which would oversee the contract with UHC. I am a retired NY rackets prosecutor whose last case was at the time the fourth largest bank failure in American history so I know how to navigate complex corporate systems and I will be locked into my own house because I can barely walk. Lots of time to pursue these remedies.

3 ReactionsUgh. Insurance should not be a for-profit business. They make money only when they deny us.
And did you see that some companies are using AI to approve or disapprove claims? It’s bad enough that a doctor who doesn’t know us and our history gets to decide our fate, but AI?
@hraka13
As promised, the Executive and her team did fast walk it through and I was approved for surgery on Monday morning and my surgeon will be replacing my knee on Wednesday. But how many patients know how to move the levers of power like I did.
I know knee replacements are supposed to be tough but I have a great surgeon and I have set myself an aggressive target. My golf course closes for overseeding on October 6th and reopens November 7th. My target is to be able to play golf by then.

I like your attitude, I think you will be able to play golf in November, even though you might have to use a golf club as a cane part-time!
Be sure to check in and let us know how the surgery and recovery go for you!
