Anyone take Lyrica for fibromyalgia and pain?

Posted by mmak @mmak, Jul 19, 2018

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few weeks back after a long journey of pain and uncertainty for 29 years. It looks like I also suffer from social anxiety disorder(this I just see from the symptoms I have, not yet diagnosed). Now my Doctor has prescribed Lyrica, I have been reading up on its reviews and most of them are very scary, has anyone used it before or are using it, please advise on it.

I've tried it but had too many bad reactions.

Yes, I’ve been taking 50 mg at night for a month for fibromyalgia related insomnia and I have been sleeping wonderfully.

I took only .75 mg of Lyrica at night (for sleep and hand/feet neuropathy) for about a year in 2010. Constant brain fog while trying to do my job at the VA. After a few months of that I started having several abrupt tongue biting episodes every day and night. Had to wear a mouth guard at night. Huge lumps and open wounds on the sides of my tongue. Dentist warned me it could cause cancer of the tongue eventually.
I wasn't sure Lyrica was the culprit but thought I'd stop it and see. It took over a week for the tongue biting to stop completely, but it finally did. After about 6 months off the stuff I took it one more night and the tongue biting started again in earnest. It's a real pain to wake up several times a night with terrible tongue pain not to mention several times a day. Never again!
My husband takes about 800 mg of Gabapentin (almost like Lyrica chemically) for severe peripheral neuropathy pain in his feet and he sleeps most of the time. Now he is developing dementia but he doesn't bite his tongue.
A couple of serious head injuries at ages 11 and 64 probably changed my brain makeup causing the tongue biting seizures. Most people just have the constant "lala" feeling. Sure, it helps to make most people sleep better and if that's all you're interested in go for it! I take Ambien for sleep and it works incredibly well for the first 3 or 4 hours then I'm wide awake again. My Dr. prescribed Trazadone with the Ambien and between them I get a solid 8 hours sleep. Hope you can get to the bottom of your issues! Life can be rough but great also!

I’ve been on Lyrica 12 yrs amazingly. Over those 12 yrs I’ve gone from starting out at 25mgs and am now on 75 three times a day. I’m 74 yrs. The only side effect I have is foot and ankle swelling which the Paperwk said is a side effect in seniors. I have no choice. My Fibro has advanced over the 20 yrs I’ve had it and the pain is severe. At 1pm and bedtime I also take some mild medical cannabis and between the two I’m able to sleep except when I’m in a flare. At those times I have to add Tylenol. We all must stay away from sweet foods and spicy foods bc they fire up Fibro pain badly. Read labels. My prayers go up for everyone with this awful pain disease! (

Namaste Mmak,
I have been taking pregablin for several years, for fibromyalgia and Lumbosacral spondylosis with radiculopathy, which I acquired from a car crash in January 2013, if I didn't take it my nerve pain and pins and needles would be unbearable! I was started on the Lyrica brand and I'm now on Relonchem I guess that is down to a cost and a supply issue as I live in England, UK . I take 2 x 25mgs four times a day, and cocodamol as I found Tramadol made no impact at all just made me into a zombie.

I do yoga, Qi Gong, gentle stretching at home as sitting, laying, walking, standing for too long hurts, but I go for walks as it keeps me mobile strengthens my muscles as painful as it is.

Hope this helps

I took Lyrica years sho. Results were that it were as if I were in a fog. As I was driving home, a great fog surrounded me in sunny Florida. I was scared & had to talk myself home/you can do this, just straight ahead. When home, I threw it out & never took it again. Gabapentin 3 times a day really help me now. I also took Cymbalta and it was horrible to get off of. Plus it didn’t help.

I had Lyrica recommended to me by a friend who just loves it and says that it’s changed her whole life.
I tried Gabapentin and that didn’t help and the pain started getting worse while I was on it. Then I tried Lyrica and it caused me to feel drunk all the time…Staggering, wobbling, it did not stop the pain. I was taking 75 mg once a day and I couldn’t walk without wobblingand crashing into the wall. Additionally, the Lyrica made me extremely hungry. I was eating constantly and I’m already obese. So I stopped after one week.
Now I’m taking 50 mg of Naltraxone at night… it seems to have taken the edge off the pain. What is the usual dosage for chronic pain? Any side affects?

Yes, and, for me, it does work for the Fibro, as well as, Small Fiber Peripheral Neuropathy. It also calms my anxiety... So, it probably does cause increased appetite but I can handle that. I also struggle with some social anxiety. Constipation is a side effect, however, I also take Duloxitine, so I'm not sure which one causes that. 75mg 3xday is prescribed for Pregabalin, but I generally only take 2xday. I am a 76yr old woman. I consider myself blessed, especially after reading about the life struggles of some people. Peace & strength to all!

Lyrica has worked very well for my nerve pain. I take it throughout the day and before bed. I have never had any bad effects.
I’ve taken it for many years.

I tried Lyrica. Nearly crashed my car when driving from MD’s appointment. Could not stay in lane. Refused to take it again. Current MD wants me to cut back on Gabapentin because of kidney problems. Although no alternates offered. Insofar as cymbalta - makes me horribly depressed. Mayo diagnosed autonomic neuropathy. Shame my primary clinic is unwilling to acknowledge the diagnosis. I do not tolerate ssri’s.
