What treatment helps for feet neuropathy?

Posted by corneliagd @corneliagd, Aug 27 5:20pm

Hello,
I am looking for years for some medical treatment to ease my neuropathic pain in my feet. It is getting worse especially at night: pain and burning of my soles, numbness and tingling.
What I am taking now, with modest results, are Naproxen and Magnesium Glycinate.
What about you? What is your medication for flair ups?

It seems to help along with the lidocaine lotion. At least temporarily. Amazon and Walmart has a generic form (same as the brand name) so it couldn't hurt to give it a try. I've made the comment before, I have a collection of creams, lotions and supplements that have been mentioned on this forum. Many were a waste of money, but I was willing to give them a try. Everyone seems to have different results. I'm just trying to avoid the prescription meds.

I will definitely try it, and like you I'm trying to avoid the prescription meds. Thanks for your opinion, very helpful.

I am also looking for a remedy for the top of my foot. At the end of the day my left top foot hurts really, really bad and the OTC Neuropathy rub/sprays don't work. It's only on the top of one foot.

Some nights, after laying down for an hour or two, my feet will burn. As you have experienced, it is very painful. Someone in one of these neuropathy groups suggested a cream that is readily available, and not overly expensive, that I purchased from Amazon: Company was Globe and the product is Capsaicin 0.1%. It's a high potency pain relief cream. I use it anytime I wake up with an unbearable burning pain on my feet, especially the bottom. You rub the cream into your feet, between your toes and on top of your feet (if it's burning there also). I also rub into my calves if they are itching or burning. Make sure that you wash your hands well after applying because if you touch your eyes it will burn like the dickens! Within minutes my burning stops! I also wear tight sox before I go to bed and that will also help. Good luck!

I have been dealing with some type of neurapathy for over 15 years, and it continually gets worse. I also have had tupe 2 Disbetes for all of those years. Everyone I talked to said "diabetic neuropathy" which I have but I also have neuropathy that is not diabetic, and to me that is the worse one as for pain.
My pain is asymmetrical. To be diabetic neuropathy it must be symmetrical (the same info both feet). I am told that this pain can be caused by a pinched nerve or a damaged nerve likely in the Lumbar region of my back that radiates down to my feet.
I was never given an EMG/nerve conductive test (which I understand is quite unpleasant, but so the neuropathy pain. My PCP is setting me up with one.
This would answer a question for me on how to treat because at least the nerve damage in my ?back? can be treated and maybe I can get rid of the pain. For the diabetic neuropathy portion I am working hard to keep my A1c down. By CGM it us now 6.4 and has been in this range for some years.
In the meantime I am in the early days of a Gabapentin (which I fought against hard for years but finally secumbed) treatment plan (100mg morning; 100mg afternoon; 400mg evening) I am just starting out so no real changes yet.

I have suffered but refused Gabapentin for 15 years - 10 years ago I began to take nighttime THC/Cbd gummies- 20-30mgs and it gives lower pain intensity.
I have looked for a safe natural way to lower pain.
Recently I read about ALA - alpha linoic Acid with b1.
This has eased the pain incredibly! I take 500mg in the morning and 500mg before settling down! It is a game changer. My pain is quite bearable! I do Not have diabetes and this is still giving relief! I would love to hear if others have had successful pain relief?

Try Alpha Linoic Acid - with B1
It is amazing and is working!

I took this too for 8 weeks starting this July- Caused heartburn and brain fog- after resisting for over 10 years! I decided to stop - weaning off- 600mg per day in 4 days- no issues.
I have been taking a CBD/thc gummy at night and 2 Advil to sleep. A week ago after researching deep decided to try ALA and B1.
After a few days of a therapeutic dose - Alpha Linoic Acid 500mg. Morning and 500mg. at night, I am feeling minimal pain with rare zingers! This is incredible to me after tolerating such constant pain for years. I also am not diabetic! Please if you try this let me know how it goes! This has been prescribed in Britain for over 20 years! Check the research too! No real side affects!
Best regards
Karen

Hi Karen, thanks for the information of what you have been doing. I haven't tried CBD gummies and don't know how available it would be here in Indiana. I have been taking 600mg of ALA-R twice a day for over a year. To be honest I don't know if it is helping.
One thing that I have learned is that aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen don't work on my type of pain because of how they work (per my PCP), so for me basically no releif except for topicals and sometimes Capsaiscin cream. This is some of the reason I have decided for the Gabapentin. Also tried the B1 but blood tests tell me I already have sufficient.
Anyway Karen, that's my story. I wish you lots of luck dealing with your situation.

I take all the herbs-Vitamins...
Its funny on this works... One day pain, another day very little pain, I walk a lot at work upwards of 10,000 steps a day +/- some days I get to 1000 steps before I start feeling it and other days 1800 steps.. just weird
I won't take Gabapentin...I did try it and I didn't like the dizziness and feeling Off... So I stopped
One thing about R-ALA if your urine doesn't smell like you just ate asparagus...its fake or a least not as potent as the label says and it could be the reason its not working great for you...

I use Lidocaine 5% patches at night before going to sleep and it helps the pain and burning. Use one sheet on each foot and sometimes i cut one in half and put one on back of ankles. I have not tried using the patches during the day because the instructions say 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off. I need to contact pharmacy or PC doctor if i can use longer then what the instructions say.
