Problems months after colon resection surgery: What Helps?
Three months after colon resection I had a severe stomach cramp this morning and have not had a bowel movement yet. This is the first time this has happened. So far things have been good.

Thank you! This helps a lot. I was thinking this should be a linear recovery - knowing that’s not really how this works gives me a new perspective. I never thought about sleeping on the couch either for the pain. You are right it takes a while to figure out a good position. I’ve really just started trying to eat normal and I too realized that’s a whole different type of pain with food - agony is accurate. I’m assuming I need to keep it still extremely simple at the 2 month mark. Thank you so much! I think I understand this whole process a little bit better now! I hope you too continue to heal!!!
Keep going strong , You will heal its slow but you will get there x god bless
I’m wondering if anyone is taking a fibre supplement like Metamucil? I’m 4 weeks out now and my doctor has told me I should take Fibre every day for the rest of my life. I’m nervous to start so soon but in the other hand perhaps it helps?
Hello @kathyoung,
If you have concerns about the doctor's directions perhaps you can call the office and speak with his nurse. She might be able to put your mind at ease.
Most people who have surgery on the digestive tract find fiber supplements like Metamucil to be helpful.
Have you ever take a fiber supplement previously?
Yes I have taken Metamucil in the past. I was a bit worried it was too soon.
I did call my surgeon to book an appointment. I had a couple of questions but his secretary wasn’t too anxious to answer which I do understand.
I have a telephone consult this week so I will be sure to be prepared with my questions. I’ve found the after care (or lack of) frustrating.
Thank you so much for answering! I’ll start very slowly with the fibre.
I'm glad to hear that you have a phone consult this week, @kathyoung. Making a list of questions is a great idea as it's always easy to forget something important.
I look forward to hearing from you again. Will you post after your phone visits and let me know how you are doing?
(Also, remember, if the receptionist who answers the phone at your doctor's office is not helpful you can always ask to speak, or leave a message, for the doctor's nurse.)
Yes its such a shame there is No proper after care ,,, good luck , keep well x
