I know this is an old post, but someone might find this helpful. I am in my 50’s, but had my tonsils and adenoids removed at age 11. Since then, about every 3-4 days it feels like there is something behind my nose, in my throat, and if I work very hard at it, I can (sorry it’s so gross) “suck it up” to spit out. I finally realized that (if you don’t have a strong gag reflex and long fingers) I can swipe it away with the tip of my finger when it has gotten to the point of being able to sense it there. It is caused by dry air, or sleeping with your mouth open at night. It is important not to scrape the tissues back there, or it leads to actual scabbing and infection risk, obviously. Swiping a bit of coconut/avocado/olive oil, Vaseline, or Aquaphor on that spot at night before sleeping helps to prevent it from drying out and causing this. Mine has gotten so bad at times, before figuring out what caused this, that it was a daily issue, and obsession with clearing it away 3-4 times a day. I could sense it not only in my nose and throat, but also in my ear. Certainly it’s an issue to discuss with an ent, but costly testing for multiple potential diagnoses, and months or years to get one, and a solution is not realistic for everyone.

@tressaken

Can you please explain in detail what you have done to remedy this? I suffer the same affliction.

I cannot find a way to reach this spot effectively. Mucus seems to pool there and as the years go on it becomes harder to force these crusts out. Any info/help is appreciated.

Thanks!
