Anyone have "cough variant" asthma? Vocal cord dysfunction?

I had cough variant asthma for many years (Way before there were any treatments that we have today!!) It took a long time to pinpoint this down as it was in the 70s and 80s. I have asthma - unfortunately controlled with Prednisone for many years, and take Dupixent every other week. Please ask about the following:
Can you take an antihistamine - such as Chlortimeton (chlorphenamine maleate) mild antihistamine and helps with post-nasal drip. I only need 1 tab am/pm instead of 4 as listed on the box. Guifessen is not always a good choice for asthmatics - as it can make many worse in their symptoms. Cough/cold remedies which have dextromethorphan can be helpful. When the wheezing happens from the cough variant asthma, it is usually high up in the lungs, causing air trapping lower in the lungs. Possibly consider a biologic - possibly Xolair - which is now used for severe allergic reactions, or one of the others. Disclaimer - I am not affiliated with any pharmaceutical company. I’ve had constant phlegm in my throat for 57 years. It developed as a result of allergy shots. The allergist shrugged when I asked him about it. Then he asked me about emotional or family problems. I was 16. He was an ass.
I have coughing type asthma and use a steroid inhaler plus a rescue inhaler. I use Mucinex DM and sudafed as needed, as well as Zyrtec.
The Mucinex helps a little but not much. Other drs. have nothing to offer.

I have it all too. CVA typically bothers me during allergy season.

Vocal cords get burned by stomach acid if you have GERD. My ENT told me the take some Mylanta liquid before bed.
Excessive mucus is your body’s way of protecting the vocal cords…

Of course, when I have a post-nasal drip and it makes me cough, I put Vicks vapo-rub on the BOTTOM OF MY FEET with socks.

@5148branelly all that mucus could be your body’s way of protecting your esophagus and vocal cords.

Liquid Musinex before bedtime may help.

@pht1123 try putting Vicks on THE BOTTOM OF YOUR FEET put socks on too.

@5148branelly I also have it. My doctor said not to use cold medicine or mucinex as it dries the mucus in the lungs and ultimately makes asthma worse. My asthma is irritant and not allergic so I’m not certain if it affects you the same way. The phlegm might also be coming from the sinuses and, if so, you might try Neilmed nasal rinse (with pulmicort if your doctor approves.) most importantly, try to figure out your triggers and eliminate them. I have mild asthma and cough, but never wheeze. I have a couple severe pollen allergies and a couple other moderate ones. I haven't been diagnosed with vocal cord dysfunction, but was having trouble with my voice frequently when I saw a frontal sinus specialist who took a look. They were covered in yellow secretions despite aggressive treatment with nasal sprays, saline rinses and antihistamines. He prescribed Mometasone for the nasal rinse bottles and I'm much better. It's been 3 years, I'm much better and am trying to reduce it to daily now that pollen season is over, but often need the second dose.

Thanks. I have a Neilmed on order. It seems like a powerized Neti Pot which I found to be impossible to use. I hope this helps. I’d be fine w/ not taking Mucinex.
