Quad Canes: What kind have worked for you?

Posted by grrranny @grrranny, Sep 4, 2025

My Physical Therapist said that I will be transitioning from my wheelchair and walker to a quad cane. Anyone have any recommendations -- brands, or where to start looking?
What has worked for you? Lightweight, folding?

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed reply, @rosemarya! Yes, I'm still using a wheelchair, while trying to do more (assisted) walking with my walker. My arthritic left knee needs to be in a brace to keep it from buckling, which complicates things a bit. I was tolerating it before my stroke, but now it's slowing down my progress because it's bone on bone, and I seem to be feeling it more.
Thanks for sharing and caring.

@grrranny, I thought of something else - Shoes! Treat yourself to some good quality walking shoes. Your Therapist might be able to suggest some brands and or shopping locations where you can try them on.

I transissioned from wheelchair to walker to quad cane but the cane just didn' feel right. It felt "stiff" as if it was forcing me to conform to its' shape. I then tride a tri cane and it felt better and worked foe me. I was disappointed to discover that sword canes are illegal..
