Need steroids more often for asthma. Anyone had this happen?
I have asthma, bronchiectasis and possible MAC. I am on Trelegy daily and use nebs, levabuterol and saline daily.
I have recently been on prednisone for 8 weeks. I seem to need it more often in the last few years. I don't wheeze, my 02 is usually 97. Anyone struggle like this?
I feel like I can't go long without the prednisone.

Hi. I am a steroid dependent asthmatic for many years. I have weaned down over the past 1 1/2 years - was sick/in hospital - had massive doses - with all the side effects. I was on 100mg of Pred when d/c from hospital and it has taken me this long to get down to 6-7 per day. I did steroid nebulizers, too.
I am off the steroid nebs and inhalers. However, I take something called Brovana (Arformoterol Tartrate) for nebulizer. This is a long acting medication very similar to Albuterol for Nebulizer. It is done every 12 hours. For me, this was a life-saver and only need the nebulizer 2 x per day. Prednisone is a great medicine, but has terrible side effects!!! We are going to try switching from Pred to Hydrocortisone - as it is used better in the body. I'm not ready to switch since I am going through Adrenal insufficiency from the decreasing. I also have very bad September/October months. Maybe in November I will try to switch.
Good luck and hope you find a good - non-steroid regimen.
Wow, you've been through it! Prayers for continued healing and success.
