reclast or ?

I have taken evenity for a year and have been advised to take reclast to maintain what bone growth evenity has done. I am concerned about any reactions from the once a year reclast Can anyone give me advice?

I had reclast infusion Feb. 2020. I was bedridden the day after and not well for about 3 days. However, my osteoporosis dropped back to osteopenia for my 2 Dexas following - and only this May 2025, with the "new testing which also scans the right side" - my right femur neck - indicating osteoporosis. Gee, from a few posts, I see yearly Reclast infusions. I was never advised to take Reclast yearly?? Unfortunately since late 2022, I have several heart issues and may not be a candidate for Reclast. Once cardiologists get my meds balanced and I know the plan as it has taken 3 years to dx all my heart issues. Anyone else have heart issues and took Reclast?

Last month, I posted my terrible problem with Reclast, but don’t see how one can easily access that now. So, I’ll tell you what happened to me here.
Briefly, I felt awful for several weeks after the first infusion last year, but then recovered. But then the day after the second infusion at the end of March this year, I developed tinnitus, which has increased and, according to my audiologist, is permanent. Even more upsetting, within 4months of the infusion, I had developed 10% across the board hearing loss in my right ear and 5% loss in the left ear and profound high frequency loss in both ears. Prior to this, my hearing was fine. My hearing is now being monitored regularly and we don’t know if the losses will continue.
I will never again take a “preventative” infused medication that cannot be discontinued.

I also have shared my experiences and I don't know what happens to these posts because I rarely see anything that I've said. But I had real problems with reclast, as you did. I had the flu symptoms actually a fairly high fever and we'll stick to my stomach for a good 24 hours, then a few days later I developed swelling and my ankles, also had all kinds of achiness those first couple days and that continued for quite some time and I've had other things that put a very well been connected with the reclast. I will not be taking a second infusion that's for sure. But as far as your tinnitus and your hearing loss. Yes I experienced very similar but not from reclast, I experienced it about 5 years ago from forteo. I was on forteo for a year and a half and had no problems seem to do well and then all of a sudden I started with the hearing loss and I have permanent tonight as I'm permanent hearing loss. As one of my coworkers, since I worked in special ed at that time and I'm now retired, told me and she is a speech pathologist that it obviously affected the little bones in my ear. So that could very well be what happened with you as well. But very annoying because the pharmaceutical company really did not take my situation into consideration even though there was indication of a teeny percentage getting hearing problems from the drug but they really did nothing and I wear hearing aids now but they did not cover them. Anyways just wanted to share my experience. I wish there was a drug that was not so harmful and as there's been mentioned in here about HRT I wish I knew more about that because that's something that my gynecologist felt was helpful and less damage to the body but I don't know. I don't understand how this works because I responded yesterday to this post and don't see it now. Anyway, I had terrible results from Reclast myself - very sick for days nausea, high fever and swelling ankles many days letter, change in my magnesium level in my body and lots of aches and pains. But, I wanted to comment on the hearing loss - I did not have that from Reclast but had it years back from Forteo use - I have Tinnitus and have hearing loss - now wearing hearing aids and did not before it started while on Forteo which my doctor took me immediately off of after that started. We have tiny bones in our ears and those were affected as must have been the case with you as well.

So far everyone I know personally has no problems with reclast.

Day 3 after Reclast. The only symptom I had was pain in my carpal tunnel on both hands day 2 and now almost gone. I stayed hydrated which I always do , took Tylenol for arthritis two hours prior which is 650 mg every 8 hours. This works great for bone pain since that is the most common side effect. I also took my allergy pill that I take every night Aller-Tec by Costco brand. Has 10mg Cetirizine. Thankfully so far that’s it.

Not my advice but my experience. I had one infusion when I finished Forteo, which did work. My experience was not good and never had another infusion. I had severe jaw pain for about a week making it nearly impossible to eat. However, I think it's worth a shot and may prevent further bone loss. It seems easier to get off of than Prolia!

I agree that this site is hard to figure out, although I am grateful to Mayo for hosting it. But I actually did see your post yesterday.
And when I originally checked this site looking for serious long-term problems people had had with Reclast, there were plenty of reports of joint and other pain and dizziness being the prominent ones.
From what I can tell, there’s something seriously wrong with the system by which the FDA requires drug companies to report and quantify post-marketing problems that might not have been detected in the original clinical studies. The onus seems to be on patients like us to alert the FDA individually (and you have to wonder how effective doing that would be, especially at the resource-depleted FDA…) or to organize a class action suit.

Any suggestions, anyone?

I've had the Reclast infusion annually for the last 4 years. No side effects. Best of luck!

@tillymack I'm replying here to my own post! Since writing this post, I've learned that Reclast can cause dizziness. I have developed long term mild intermittent dizziness but do not know the cause. That said, I do not plan to repeat this medication.
