Is anyone taking Nuzyra for M. Abscesses or other?
Nuzyra is a new antibiotic used to treat M. Abscesses. It should be taken after 4 hours of fasting and prior to 2 more hours of fasting. I decided to take at 10 PM, but now I can't sleep. Insomnia is a side effect. I'm taking Linezolid at 6 AM and 6 PM, and Arikayce at 11 AM. Since I want to space out my drugs, now thinking on changing my time. Anyone else having or had this issue? Did the insomnia subside? I'm thinking set alarm for maybe 3 AM and take then? I'm doing good with Linezolid taking with toast in the morning and dinner at night. Though Linezolid is complicated too, since diet should be low or void of Tyramines to help avoid side effects.

1 ReactionThe talk was great -- the first time I have felt really hopeful about the long-term prognosis following an Abscessus diagnosis. here is the link

1 ReactionThank you for sharing the video. Phage therapy for MABC came up during both the 2025 NJH BE NTM Patient Conference on Saturday (9/13) and an expanded NJH patient conference. Dr Daly (NJH) mentioned that a double lung transplant recipient was given phage treatment for MABC prior to the transplant, and they could not find any MABC in his lungs-I think NJH had the lungs. This is really encouraging. I've been testing negative the last 3 cultures, but now after hearing a 50% recurrence rate and that a negative in one assay, can be a positive in another assay (per John Wikstrom)-has me still a little anxious. Dr Daly also mentioned there were a number of ongoing phage studies. I haven't searched for them yet but probably could find on "clinicaltrials.org". It's quite exciting! MABC has such rotten stats, so it's so nice that they are working on the phage bank.
I take Nuzyra.
I set my alarm for 2am.
I like that time because, in the morning I don’t want to wait 2 hrs for my morning coffee. Fortunately, I do not suffer with insomnia.
Good luck

1 ReactionI have been taking Nuzyra for a week. I decided to take it at 11:30pm, and start my 4 hour fast at 7:30pm and then 2 hour fast after. I had a couple nights that I experienced slight nausea but got thru it. When I spoke to the specialty pharmacist before receiving the drug, I ask if I could drink tea during fasting and he said yes but no dairy in it, drinking water also allowed. After my first couple of nights, I started drinking peppermint tea close to the 11:30pm pill taking time and continued with sips after taking the pills. I haven’t had any of the nausea since, hope it continues to work for me.
As always, thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences.

1 ReactionMy spouse is on a similar regimen for NTM-Absesses. He was doing fine with the Nuzyra for a few months taking it at 6 a,m. But then he started with terrible nausea and gut pain. We changed the process to wake up a 5:45 am to take an anti nausea medication, goes back to sleep and then i wake him up at 6:15 to take the Nuzyra. He generally sleeps with an extra pillow after the Nuzyra dose. Then breakfast around 8 a.m. he does the inhaled med late afternoon with some tea. The other antibiotics don’t seem to cause any stomach distress. But, it’s worth it.
Hello: I was diagnosed with Mycobacterium Abscesses in September 2024. I started IV Amikacin, Azithromycin and Omadacyclin in June 2025. I started to get a loud ringing in my right ear after being on the IV Amikacin for 7 weeks. I was taken off the IV Amikacin in August. The ringing did not go away. Is there any treatment that can reverse of repair the damage caused by Amikacin? Are there medications or supplements that have shown any benefit for drug induced tinnitus? Has anybody else experienced this?
About 6 months into my first treatment for MAC with daily big 3, I developed hearing loss attributed to Azithromycin. It was stopped and my hearing improved a bit, though not back to baseline. I’ve never been on IV Amikacin. A few years later I was sick again, with MAC and abscessus. They put me in Clarithromycin 3 times a week instead of Azithromycin because it is thought to be easier on your hearing. I took it (along with a bunch of other stuff) for about 18 months and cleared the MAC without any further hearing loss.
I had read that NAC might have a protective effect on hearing, so I took it throughout my second round of treatment. Maybe it helped?
Can you tell me what NAC is?
