Does anyone treat their neuropathy without pharmaceutical drugs?

Posted by annashby @annashby, Feb 1 3:56pm

I’ve recently been diagnosed with neuropathy and given gabapentin for pain. I am concerned about the many side effects of this drug. I don’t know why I have this condition as I am not diabetic and have no pinched nerves in my spine. I’m 78 and pretty healthy except for this. I exercise at the gym 4-4 times a week and walk several miles when I don’t go to the Y.
Anyone have suggestions for me?

I got for neuropathy from chemo. I do take tramadol but I'm not sure it does anything I just noticed when I don't take it it seems to get worse but when I can't sleep and my feet hurt me so much I bought these socks from Amazon that have packs in them that you freeze and I put the socks on my feet and it's so relieving and I finally go to sleep. I think unfortunate because when my feet hurt the worst it's when I'm in bed at night and that's all I can think about is that feeling in my feet but during the day I guess I'm just so busy I don't think about it so it doesn't bother me as much. I did try gabapentin but it makes my hands shake it jumps onto things on that I don't want it to jump on when I'm typing so I quit using it didn't seem much help anyway

I have been using this product with good results for the past few months:
https://youngnutra.com/products/mirica-advanced-high-absorption-formula-60-capsules-palmitoylethanolamide-pea-and-luteolin
It was recommended by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum in his book “ From Fatigued To Fantastic”.

I have had reduction in pain with Alpha Lipoic Acid, but had to stop it because it aggravated acid reflux.

I still take pain medication, but I was able to reduce it pretty dramatically. Good luck to you!

Alpha Lipoid Acid also burns my stomach, but I take it with food or make sure I have food on my stomach, My doctor also gave me prescription that help my acid reflux. Omeprazole 20Mg twice a day. try this, it works

Lidocaine was suggested to me did you try it?

Yes. I use a combination of Aspercreme (4% lidocaine) and Voltaren gel for neuropathy pain.
This works well for me for muscle pain also.
First massage in Voltaren, wait a few minutes for it to absorb, then rub in a layer of Aspercreme.
Theory is using both an antiinflammatory and topical anesthetic could be synergistic.
Also seems to help to rub them into trigger point areas that can refer pain to more distant spots.
For instance, top of the foot pain can be referred from anywhere in the shin muscles.
Makes sense since you're dealing with nerves that run all the way down the leg.

I’m glad that works for you. I have tried taking it with food in addition to my acid reflux medication and it’s still a problem.
Unfortunately, my acid reflux is quite severe.

I use "ICY HOT" original rubbed over feet and legs. It brings a temp relief for hours but pain, tingling and numbness returns after all. There is NO real cure for Neuropathy as I have already spent thousands and thousands of dollars which was a waste. Once nerves are damaged, they're damaged! Don't let the doctors make you believe there is a somewhat a cure if you continue to take meds such as Juniva, Gabapentin, etc...

I’m fortunate that my PN is painless . I just deal with the weakness, numbness, and tingling in my feet. There is no cure and there will never be any. Don’t fall for all the scams on the internet the claim that their products are cures for PN. You just have to deal with it as it will be with you forever.

The list:
B Vitamins
R-ALA
Acetyl-Carnitine
N-acetyl-cysteine
Curcumin
Fish Oil (Omega"s) I use Krill Oil
This is the list from the Mayo Clinic for what helps..

For me keeping my feet cool, helps (sleeping with one foot-leg out of the blankets seems to do the trick for me)..
At work I can't do that so I'm searching for some kind of cooling shoe inserts.
So summer months are the worst for me....Hot baths also
I tried all the RX stuff by the time it worked somewhat it made me dizzy..goofy so I quit it
I'm not diabetic but sugar/Chocolate seems to set it off also Alcohol...Dang! lol
I'm trying Metformin because it help regulate your glucose...The verdict is still out on this since I just started it..

Has anyone tried “Diosmin-Hesperidin” for neuropathy? These supplements may be very helpful to regenerate nerves.
