Hi everyone! This is my first post in this group but have been suffering from little sleep for a long time despite being prescribed sleep medication for the past 10 years.
My problem is it feels impossible for me to unwind because I am constantly thinking of everything I need to do or worrying I forgot something.
My cat that I rescued about a year ago has been a great help in this department because he is calming; however, I still struggle with this and would love some kind of solution that would enable me to get on a normal sleep schedule with an adequate amount of sleep each night. Preferably without the ambien since it is a controlled substance and I want to move away from all controlled substances.
I am scheduled for a sleep study at a lab on 10/24 at 8:30 PM so hoping for answers as to why nothing seems to work for me. Most nights I end up sleeping on the couch and my husband is upstairs in my $5000 bed, which I thought would help with the sleep issue and when I do sleep in it, I sleep for about 4 hours, which for me is great.
My husband and I have been struggling in our marriage due to a number of reasons, hence, me sleeping on the couch.
Here is my question for the group:
Has anyone done a sleep study before in a lab where you check in at night and then leave the next morning and if so what was it like and what were the results if you do not mind sharing?
My Pulmonary doctor ordered the sleep study in the lab to see how my breathing is when I am sleeping and if that is the cause of me not being able to stay asleep. I developed Pulmonary Issues back in March of this year due to something I contracted that was attacking my lungs and they were contracting to protect themselves preventing me from being able to breathe properly.
My PCP gave me an order to do a home sleep study where I pick up equipment and do it as he said from the comfort of my own bed.
Not sure which is better so any advice there would be helpful as well.
I really want to get a handle on the sleep thing because I know it affects every other aspect of your life in a negative way and I want that to end.
I even tried goat yoga which is the picture I posted (thought they were going to be baby goats) and found it to be an amazing experience. I thought physical activity would help calm me down and get rid of my constant restlessness which it did and I plan to explore more of things like that to do. Typical exercise to me is boring so I have to find something that will do the trick and keep me motivated to return.

I’ve had insomnia for 20 years (onset of menopause), and still don’t have it licked. But, stretching yoga, meditation (which takes for ever to learn), gratitude thinking, (Joylab podcast), etc really help. I’ve been taking a low dose on and off for 20 years as well. I’m
Working to get off of it!

I first had a home sleep study back in 2020 which shows more limited data than one in a lab but can be useful in determining sleep apnea. Mine was normal. As I continued to struggle with insomnia I had one done in a lab 1-2 years later, checking in at 9 pm and which was more difficult to sleep with all the wires connected. I had to take a Xanax I brought with me in order to fall asleep and then only slept 4 hours in the lab and left at 4 am. They monitor you by video to watch for restless legs or which position you sleep in and the attendant was very pleasant and accommodating. Still did not find any answers but at least I knew I did not have respiratory or sleep apnea issues.
