Collagen for osteoporosis?

Posted by cpb @cpb, Jul 26, 2021

My friend's medical doctor has her take collagen for her bones. I decided to try it and wondered if anyone knows more than I do about this.

I found this clinical trial that shows increased BMD (5-8 % increase) by taking Fortibone collagen peptides. The trial runs for several years. Here is the link;

I use OsteoNaturals Osteo collagen pep that contains the Fortibone collagen

I am also now using OsteoNaturals. Just started. In only one(1) month I have been amazed by skin changes; my skin is more moist, more flexible, and smoother. I am an active 75 year old female who cannot consider HRT due to a history of ovarian cancer.

I hope the collagen also helps with bone formation, which is the purpose I began its use per "Great Bones." I also make and enjoy bone broth.

Before the OsteoNaturals product I was using Vital Proteins for a while. No noticeable differences.

Do you know if it has been 3rd party checked for heavy metals?

Good question! I've just emailed Dr. McCormick to ask.

Thanks for checking on it. I had seen a list of ones that did not contain heavy metals and that one wasn’t on it.

Good follow-up.

McCormick likely came up with this product for his own personal use. Fortibone is the only listed ingredient, which is perhaps something that has to be purchased from Gelita.

Will be curious to learn if it has been tested for heavy metals.

Whether you take this or not, consider making your own bone broth. Put a variety of bones in water with a couple of tablespoons of vinegar and cook overnight in a slow cooker. Use as a soup base or just drink. Natural collagen for free!

Thanks. I bought some bone broth a year ago at our farmers market then was afraid to drink it, that I'd get mad cow. (We live near Amish country.) i like your idea of getting your own bones. Like that's safer haha.

I'm actually thinking of HRT despite breast cancer. It can't be worse than Evenity.

My husband and I use our own bones. Even if we’ve eaten off them, it’s just us, so we don’t worry about germs (and boiling them would disinfect them anyway). We throw them into a container in the freezer until we collect enough to be worth cooking up.
