Quick Bio- Total thyroidectomy 13 yrs ago, Hysterectomy 6 yrs ago, Triple positive BC 5 yrs ago with 3 mos on Taxol chemo and over one year on Herceptin . Total hair loss then but hair came back full and healthy- eyelashes never did). Anastrazole daily until 8 mos ago, Allergic to all meat (yes it’s true- but watch daily protein intake. 65 yrs old and now you can actually see through my hair suddenly the past few mos. I always had a lot of hair even post chemo total hair loss and hair was fine. Suddenly it feels like chicken fur, less total hair than what a toddler would have on her head, stringy and broken??? Also, I am not stressed out and am only on thyroid replacement. Thank-you!

…me again…btw for those of you who fear total hair loss with chemo look at it this way… it is literally for such a short time. Your hair will start growing back in just three months and you will not believe how freeing it is to quickly shower. Also, when your hair grows back it will be an interesting perfectly layered haircut. That for sure I would go through again… just strange that years later my hair is suddenly wispy, frail and super thin… this was not happening on Anastrazole but maybe because I stopped? For those of you who have problems with waking in the middle of the night sweaty with hot flashes on this drug I have a great fix…..instead of taking the drug in the a.m try to take it as lte as possible before bed i.e 10:30-11 pm. You will still wake that way but it will be in the morning when you would normally get up so you will sleep better at night. I told my Oncologist and he is having his patients do this now.

Google Anestrozole side effects.
One is hair loss.
BC friend on another site taking Anestrozole is using that product that helps men with hair loss that has minoxidil in it.

Ask your medical oncologist if ok to use.

I just read that you have stopped it. But perhaps the last few months on it caused that.

True. Anastrazole has done that to me. Every single day, I get at least half a handful of hair when I brush it. I don't have other meds or issues that have that impacvt, and I'm sure it's the anastrazole.

Going through the same. Lost everything with chemo but grew back most. Then the ai therapy. Started with Anastrazole and some but switched to exemestane because of other side effects and now it’s uncontrollable. Can see scalp through the hair and more daily. Tried minoxidil because it was what dermatologist said to use. (Can’t do Nutrafol - stimulates estrogen). Unfortunately the attitude is usually to be thankful I have hair and just live with current loss.

Good morning, has anyone had hair loss while taking Letrozole?

I also have had hair thinning on letrozole. I am told I should use mens roGaine or take oral monoxile which both the oncologist and cardiologist cleared but I am trying to wait a few months to see if it will slow down. I also am using Vegamour hair products and I think they are helping. They have shampoo conditioner and a hair serum all plant based and i think it has slowed down the thinning. My oncologist said all these drugs can do the same thing so it isn't like we have a choice.

I've been on anastrozole for 9 months and have always had great hair. But I am becoming concerned. Every time I shampoo and dry my hair I lose about 20 strands (yes, I'm counting!) and they're weird. I swear each individual hair is thinner! And instead of curling as it normally did when it hit the sink (2-3 pieces before AI) , it drops with a strange 90 degree crimp in it. I'm going to try the Vegamour products. I know, I know. We're lucky to be alive, lucky if our cancer was caught at an early stage but I feel as if my femininity is being chipped away, one strand at a time!

I feel we are all in the same situation. Told we have to take it but know that for five years it may take a toll on our body under ways that make us feel worse. It is hard enough knowing it could still come back even when taking letrozole. I am trying to think positive. I take collegan and use vegamour products and I think they are helping. Hoping this doesn’t continue or I will have to go with a super short cut pixie and pray for the best.
