Ice machines for knee replacements?

Posted by loll @loll, Aug 30, 2025

What machine worked best for you?

I’ll need to buy or borrow one from friends. I’m sure I’ll want to use the frozen pop bottle method for cooling.
I’m looking for a moderately priced one. The surgeon doesn’t provide one.
I'm getting ready for the knee replacement! Thanks!

I have had 2 knees and. 2 hips replaced at 3 different hospitals. All. sent me with my own ice machine as part of the package. Our local HC support group also does loaners of equipment. The ice machine is a necessity. for pain relief.

I had my ice machine on both knees immediately after surgery .. I had minimal pain .

Used it for 3 weeks every hour or so

By 4 weeks I used it at night only . Swelling was minimal

I’d highly recommend it as the cooling effect is gentle and consistent for an hour or so

I rented it from my physio by workers comp is paying 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I had good pain relief by using an ice knee wrap available on Amazon. Kept in the freezer when not in use. I didn’t want to spend lots of
$$ on an ice machine. Of course a good option if covered by insurance. The important point is to ice one way or another.

I got a cold therapy machine from Amazon. Best money I've spent during this journey, as it runs for hours and I Velcro it on whatever spot needs it. Ice packs were just not up to the task.
