When was your first PSA test after RP ? (after how many days)

Posted by surftohealth88 @surftohealth88, Sep 9, 2025

I am just wondering what is standard number of days used for conducting PSA test after RARP. If you remember - please share. 😎
We initially were scheduled to have it at 90 days mark per doctors instructions but after we got pathology back we panicked and moved it to only 7 weeks 😣. Now I wonder if that is maybe too soon ?
Thanks for the info in advance 🌼

My husband had his post RARP PSA test six weeks afterwards. Bad results: 1.9. Doc ordered a PSMA pet scan to be done STAT…insurance wouldn’t consider paying for it until there was another PSA test at 12 weeks! Just had that, bad results: 4.7. We are waiting now to see if they will pay for it. I can’t believe they play with people's lives this way. Never have had coverage problems before. In the meantime have started ADT and will start radiation following the PSMA pet scan. I feel very upset about it all.

I had surgery in October of 2023. My first PSA test was about 90 days after. I have had 5 tests so far and all have been < 0.01. My next test is the beginning of October. Hoping and praying for more of the same. 🤞🙏. Wishing the same for you!

July 9th was RP and first Post op PSA was done on Aug 19th. Lymph Nodes removed during the RALP came back with positive margins.

Next PSA prior to Hormone Blockers will be on Sept 22.

I am so sorry to hear that 😢, just unbelievable. I know first had how disheartening such situations are, sometimes I feel like I exist in a twilight zone.
I hope that your husband will now have expedited and superb care 😟 and that all will be well. *hugsssssss

Just got the CT scan results. There is a cyst in my kidney That has grown a lot since 2020. It says follow up with another CT scan in a year, but it could be a problem since its cause is indeterminate.

L4 on my spine has some negative issues. It was zapped last year because it had a metastasis wrapped around it. Some of the tissue has become more dense. Need more information.

I need to speak to my oncologist to find out exactly what she thinks all this means.

I will follow up tomorrow.

I am sure that your oncologist will have some ideas and answers, she was always very responsive and super smart so far. 👍 I know that those kidney cysts can be benign and are often seen and discovered by accident during CTs and it is very realistic possibility since it was there before. 🍀 CT can see weird and unrelated things - I for example have benign cyst in my liver and I even have unidentified "artifact" on the left side of my lower abdominal wall 😬 ?!?!?! The comment said : "probably result of previous procedure", meaning somebody left something after surgery BUT , I NEVER HAD SURGERY 😵‍💫 So ...👽 ???
I am keeping my fingers crossed that your L4 is "nothing" too 🍀✨.
I was just thinking - did you check your thyroid function recently ? Sometimes it can effect wight and RBC count. Just a thought .

My oncologist said the following about my L4, I of course, have not included her exact words.

The area in L4 is not bigger. It is expected that there would be changes over time (like scar tissue) so there is no good reason to think this is progressive disease at this point. She did say that there was no way To really see if it’s a metastasis again, An MRI wouldn’t do it. Since I came up undetectable again this month so a PSMA PET scan wouldn’t work.

She had the urologist review the kidney issue and he wants another CT scan in six months. My wife had a partial nephrectomy, I wonder if I’m going to end up with one of those another six months to a year.

There still isn’t any simple answer for why my blood test are so strange and jumped so quickly. One good thing is a lot of other blood test came up either normal or just slightly low for RBC and hemoglobin. Those numbers haven’t changed much at all in the last year.

I actually seem to have gained 1 pound.

That is ridiculous. Very frustrating! For goodness sake just let our doctors do the testing needed. It really is not right that insurance can control so much. 🙁

Sending hugs and positive thoughts that it will get approved asap.
