Exercise is the best way to clear lungs. My choice is cycling, outdoors if the temperature is over 35. I asked my pulmonologist why exercise is not pushed more for bronchiectasis and he replied because most patients won’t do it. If you do not have a history of exercise it may be hard to start but the payoff is great, with the endorphins being a bonus.

What a sad nod to reality "...I asked my pulmonologist why exercise is not pushed more for bronchiectasis and he replied because most patients won’t do it..." In truth, exercise has been so built-in to my life in the form of vigorous gardening & housework, plus walking, constant PT & stretching to stay mobile & senior-style yoga, that I don't even think about it.

On the other hand, my daughter struggles to get her 33 yo neighbor to walk 3 blocks with her, and the mom punishes her 9 yo twins by taking away their outdoor and trampoline time and putting them on the sofa with their tablets.

The top 3 questions on my pulmonologists' pre-visit questionnaire are about activity and exercise, followed by airway clearance and med compliance...

I love to ride my bike too but these days the traffic has become much more dangerous so my most regular bike work is spin class at the gym. Not as satisfying as biking outside but a throughly good workout!
