What treatment helps for feet neuropathy?

Posted by corneliagd @corneliagd, Aug 27 5:20pm

Hello,
I am looking for years for some medical treatment to ease my neuropathic pain in my feet. It is getting worse especially at night: pain and burning of my soles, numbness and tingling.
What I am taking now, with modest results, are Naproxen and Magnesium Glycinate.
What about you? What is your medication for flair ups?

The bottom line is the Medical Profession will never cure PN, it’s here to stay. Some pain meds work and some don’t. Some people with PN have no pain, just weakness, numbness and tingling. Its a debilitating condition that makes our lives miserable but we need to stay strong and and deal with it.

In my case when the burning and pain are too severe I take Nortryptline 10 mg at night in addition to morning 25 mg Lyrica. I also apply MamaBear Oasis lotion and it lets me sleep a little better. But it’s very expensive!

I use naproxen every day, but along with the neuropathy in my feet, I have arthritis in more joints than I care to mention. I use diclofenac gel(Volteran) and lidocaine lotion on my feet a couple of times a day.

Does the Voltaren help much? My doctor told me to try it.

Has anyone tried the device called Orthoback
vibrastone. I’ve looked at it a few times times but would like some feedback if any good.

Voltaren works great for my arthritis pain, but we've never tried it on the soles of my feet. The only temporary relief for my neuropathy is pure peppermint extract spray. It only lasts for a few minutes, but it's less time dealing with the pain and burning.

It really is about trial and error-I have a great medical team--PCP, Pain Management , neurologist-I have had PN for about 2 years--started off as spinal issues and then POOF! In the beginning 30 years ago the shots helped with the Spineissues. Then now I am on Gabapentin, Baclofen, Tramadol, Celebrex, Duloxetinefor depression. No matter what I try to do some exercise--feels great when I am doing it but then I pay for it for two days. I keep trying things-lately with certain creams --Lidocaine, Vrekef urea cream--feet feel better but my balance is now of and leg weakness--this is a blast isnt it.. It really is about management and reveling in any type of positive feelings. I have accepted that I wont be normal and do what I can--good luck!!! Tyrone L

Tyrone,
I've tried most every cream on the market. They do work, but for such a short time! I know what you mean about the leg weakness. It's been only a few months now that I've noticed that, and I hate it. Sometimes even to do grocery shopping, I have to stop and give my legs a rest just to be able to continue my shopping. I have been doing the exercises that my pt gave me for leg strengthening, and they do help, but its a slow process and some days, just discouraging to have this happening. One day at a time, I keep reminding myself.

gen55 thank you so much for responding to my whining. Would you mind sharing the exercise-I will be starting PT next week!

Thanks again--Lidocaine 5% helps sometimes!
