MGUS, pain and weight loss

Posted by 314nana2one @314nana2one, Aug 19 6:50am

My husband was diagnosed with MGUS in late 2024 and has lab work done every six months. My concern is the pain he has in his ribs and mid back. He has also losing weight. He has gone from 207lbs to 187lbs without trying. Imaging (MRI, PET, X-rays) revealed no issues. Has anyone with MGUS had similar symptoms?

What started all this was severe pain in ribs/sternum with noticeable swelling and we still have no answers for it.

What does your hematologist/oncologist say? Pain in spine and chest is something that should be looked into. What diagnostic testing has been done?
Here’s where I worry that members will worry unnecessarily if it turns out to be something else, and since I’m not medically trained I can’t know, but the Mayo literature says that this should be checked out sooner rather than later. If that has happened and you are still having pain, don’t be afraid to get a second, or even third opinion.
What diagnostic testing has been done and why does your hem/onc doctor say you have had no relief?
I’ll post what Mayo has to say in the comments. Please let me know what you find out.

I wrote to my Hem/Onc telling him about the severe ribs pain. His nurse responded to me immediately that I should schedule appointment with my primary care provider (PCP) and see her for the ribs pain. Being a Nurse Practitioner myself, and knowing that the usual rib pain have gotten worse worries me, and I don't see it as my PCP's responsibility, rather as my Hem/Onc to check it out.
What do you advised me to do?
