Evenity and side effects: What helps joint and muscle pain?

Posted by rjkesal123 @rjkesal123, Feb 13, 2024

Hi All,
I received my first Evenity injection two weeks ago. Everything was going well, did not even have injection site pain. But the last couple of days I have had joint and muscle pain especially in my neck and upper back, Lower back and arms. I've read the drug peaks around 7 to 14 days. I am wondering if this is normal, has anyone else experienced this and if these side effects subside? Is there anything you take before or after the injection to relieve this pain? It is very uncomfortable. Thank you!

I had my third shot 10 days ago and had quite a bit of joint pain in my hips and knees after. It has gradually gotten better, though, and today is almost gone. I’m wondering if this will be the pattern going forward for the remainder of my treatment.

I am wondering the same thing. It took two weeks for my pain to go away.

I had my first Evenity injections two weeks ago. I am still having severe pain in my lower back, hips and right leg. My doctor doesn’t want me to continue with Evenity. Has anyone else experienced this. If so, what medication did you change to?

Has anyone read that there are indications that after six months of Evenity you reap 90% of the effectiveness of the medication?

Yes it starting after about 14 days from my first injection when I think the drug was peaking. I have read about people having side effects around that time. I do not have any burning sensations but feel muscle/joint pain. I cant tolerate the pain as long as it subsides at some point and hoping it doesn't happen after the 2nd injection. Yes, have to decide what we can tolerate for our bones. Thank you for your help.

How did the next shot go and what did you decide to do? I am having such stiffness and don’t know if I can keep this up if it doesn’t subside.

Hello @bruceandruth1970, I combined your discussion into another discussion on Evenity side effects and how members are managing joint and muscle pain:

Here, you'll be able to read through how members handled their Evenity side-effects and how some members had their symptoms go away after a short period of time.

Just wanted to report that I had my fourth shot last Friday and am not experiencing any joint or muscle pain. My arms were sore for a couple of days but so far I have not had the same experience as previous shots with painful joints and muscles. I've read here that sometimes the joint and muscle pain dissipate as treatment continues so I am hoping that's what is going on in my case.

Hello everyone! I had my second dose of Evenity last week and I have severe joint pain in my left hip lower back and thigh. I'm on day 4 of this and taking Motrin every day. Doctor said it shouldn't last longer that 5 days but I'm not holding my breath! Anyone else have this happen? What did you do? I hate to stop the evenity! Help!!!

My experience has been wildly variable after each injection. First injection I did not have much joint or muscle pain. Second shot I had pain that started a few days after and lasted about a week. Third shot the pain started immediately and lasted two weeks. I had my fourth shot last Friday and initially had very little joint or muscle pain (and even posted that yesterday). Unfortunately, five days after my shot my right hip and knee started hurting, enough to wake me last night.

I take two extended release Tylenol every night at bedtime. This lasts about six hours but then I am awakened by pain.

So, my experience is that it seems to be different every time. I am sticking with the medication, though, in the hopes of it helping me build bone. The pain and disability I had following my compression fracture was much worse and if Evenity helps me avoid another fracture then I am willing to put up with the discomfort.

I have been suffering with terrible joint pain in my knees and now I have tendonitis in the back of my knees. I lost all muscle mass too. I have 5 more treatments.
The injections are so painful and my body swells around the injection site for over 7 days each time.

Are they insuring that the Evenity is not cold before injection? It is much easier when it is not too cold

I will find out on Monday when I go back. My endocrinologist said that I can have both injections in the one arm since I had lymph nodes removed on my left side.
