@blm1007blm1007 Barbara -
Hypertonic Saline is the medical reference for any saline solution with a concentration of greater than 0.9% sodium chloride. Normal saline with 0.9% sodium chloride is called Isotonic Saline. So your confusion is not unusual - unfortunately, some of us (me) and many in the medical community use terminology and actual names for thing interchangeably without explanation.

To answer the question about ingredients, as a drug, the sodium chloride box is labeled with every ingredient contained in the vial. I have never seen mine with citric acid, citrate, another preservative or any other chemical. When there was a "buffered" or ph-balanced version on the market, it was labeled to say it contained sodium bicarbonate. So if you are getting your saline from a medical provider you can see on the box label exactly what is in each ampule.

I had called Pari and they answered my question to them. No Citric Acid in the Sodium Chloride Solution 7% by Pari. The Pari Sodium Chloride was purchased from Walgreens Pharmacy.
Thanks Sue for your reply.
