RSV vaccine

Posted by naiviv @naiviv, Aug 20, 2025

Has anyone decided to get a RSV vaccine? My doctor told me that it would be wise to get it but honestly I am so afraid to get more shots. I got the Covid shots and unfortunate I was sick the whole month of last December with Covid. The RSV has only been in the market 3 years now I believe but I don’t hear of people getting it. As a matter of fact I am not getting more Covid shots. I read that 15 new mRNA Covid shots will be in the market soon and they are dangerous. So if anyone has decided to receive the RSV I would like to know if possible, if side effects showed up. For so many decades Pharma research has been looking into finding a Cancer vaccine, a Muscular dystrophy vaccine, an Alzheimer’s vaccine and none of those companies have found anything to cure or protect us against those diseases. So how come a Virus so contagious as Covid, which still researchers are studying because they don’t actually know how this virus generates, resulted in the manufacture of Covid vaccines in less than 1 year? How did that happen? Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson had the Covid shots ready….. How about RSV? What is your opinion about it? Thanks in advance

There are lots of verifiable, veridical, problems with the MRNA vaccines made for COVID-19. However, at least in Canada, it was widely disseminated that these were NOT going to prevent infection. They would help the body to respond more quickly by being sensitized to the spike proteins on the outer surface of the virus. This meant that people would not get a lot sicker before their own natural immunity wised up and realized the body was in a crisis.
Unlike other vaccines, like the Salk vaccine for polio that prevented the infection in the first place, the COVID vaccines were only ever meant to give a new host body a head start on its immune response. We're talking about a full 24 hours quicker, meaning the virus was prevented sooner from replicating in huge numbers which was what killed many people....if it wasn't follow-on infection such as pneumonia or other opportunistic diseases.

I had the RSV vaccine with no problem. Since I was caring for my parents, we all go it. No problems.
No problems with any other vaccine either. Thank God I have protection.

Good For You, Very Thoughtful doing it for yourself & Your Parents well-being.
(In 2014 when the Fall Vaccine had a special one for Seniors, I had it. The Side Effects were SO BAD my Internist advised me to stop getting Fall Vaccinations against "the Latest Fall-Flu's. Clearly in 2014 the Vaccine did more harm than probably the Flu would have done.")
So I guess we'd have to say, "We Must Each evaluate our Personal Tolerance for vaccines,, & use our Own Best judgement in getting Fall Flu injections. "

Agreed. Each vaccine contains other chemicals besides the bio agent that stimulates the immune response, some of them boosters to that effect. If they make you ill, then maybe they're not for you.

I was not trying to offend you at all. I am not that type of person. This site is for sharing . Not a Dr.'s office.

I caught Covid 4 weeks after my first lung cancer surgery. I don't know how because I was careful to avoid people. It was mild just with productive cough that went away with the anti-viral. I was grateful I was up to date on my Covid vaccine!!!
Following my Mayo doctor recommendations to protect my lungs I am up to date on flu, Covid, and have had also Shingles, RSV and pneumonia vaccines. And I avoid people who are not up to date.
Life is a risk assessment of options. In medicine I follow the advice of those I know are qualified to speak on the subject. Vaccine benefits far outweigh the risks. And a sore arm is hardly a problem.

I am an RN and you should avoid anyone that is sick...not just the unvaccinated.

I quit going to people's homes to do infusions back when Covid started because the CDC said and my employer was thrilled to agree, that all we needed was a surgical mask. Well, that proved to be oh so wrong. The W.H.O knew from the beginning that we would need full protective gear. But this was downplayed. People thought and apparently still think that if you are vaccinated you can do whatever you want, but that's not true. A general rule of thumb which works very well, is stay away from people that are obviously sick. If you are impaired or predisposed to infections, avoid crowds and anyone that spends time around children. You can still get sick even being vaccinated, as you know. And you can still spread infection even though you have been vaccinated. IMO that is why the viruses still get us...people think they are invincible and safe to be around just because they are vaccinated.

Thanks, and of course I avoid sick people. Fortunately, my family is sensitive and people are told not to come to family gatherings if they are sick, not just for me but for the other elderly in the family. And we are religious about washing our hands when we come home...surprising how well that works!
I also have pulmonary fibrosis and am on supplemental oxygen so I know I need to be careful. It is a new twist in life, always thinking about if the air I breathe is healthy. And with O2, a mask is not enough, because the O2 concentrator takes in room air.

You will love this.....two years ago I went to my local clinic to get tested for Covid when I had symptoms. They had everyone sit in the same waiting room, no separation of patients between those there for a Covid test and others, and the guy administering the nose swab for the Covid test was not even wearing a mask much less protective gear (so let's give it to everyone if I am positive?). One of the people working there even mentioned they were supposed to be wearing masks ...but they weren't.

I agree with you. Many people think that the vaccines are to stop the viral infections. That is not true. Even being vaccinated anyone can get infected but the symptoms are not as bad as if not have being vaccinated. I got 5 Covid shots and I did it to protect my husband since he is immunocompromised. Still I got Covid and my husband too. Thank God it didn’t put us in a hospital but the congestion, fatigue and cough lingered for one month. Getting vaccinated is a personal decision and I respect that. Thanks for your input. Stay healthy.

Yes, there are breakthrough infections, and the virus mutates to different strains.
Vaccines are meant to protect against severe illness and hospitalization. I tested positive twice. The first time I had a productive cough, the second time only because I knew I had been exposed. I was grateful not to have anything severe. My lungs are very compromised, and the vaccine protected me from severe disease.
