Does anyone have a solution to help manage Reclast side effects?

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15, 2024

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

With the number of people reporting long-tern adverse reactions, maybe we should be pressuring the manufacturer to develop an antidote.

As I sit here and try to think what brought me to the Endrocrologist in the first place. My PCP did my whole count blood work, suggested I go to endocrinology who in turn suggested that I have this Reclast infusion which gave numerous side effect that continue 14 months later. I had zero shoulder pain and zero left foot pain prior. I did experience nausea, fatigue and tiredness as well. The latter has seemed to let up some. Outside of something off with my blood count I really had no issues; just routine bloodwork! Endocrinology continues to contact me what seems almost weekly trying to get me to come in to have a second Reclast infusion. The endocrinologist recommended that I go to rheumatologist for my pain issues and continue my treatment with them. I shared that I will not acquire any additional medication therapy until Rheumatologist rules out side effects from the Reclast; in fact,
, the more I think about it the more I am inclined to decline any additional medication therapy. I honestly felt fine before the infusion and sometimes test can be wrong or preformed wrong, get a wrong reading and we as patients pay the price!
Endocrinologist office called me again this week wanting to set up an appointment for me to come in, I shared that my rheumatologist appointment is not until 01/29/2026 and guess what! Endocrinologist office called me back and have me set to go to Rheumatologist next week!
Only thing I can Strongly suggest! Be Your Own Advocate, Be heard! Protect Your Body! I’m not a Ginny Pig nor will I allow to be treated as such! As we age we all will continue to experience new differences in our bodies; it’s a part of aging I guess! I wish all of you good luck!

I looked back in comments to see if you had already shared the results of your last deca scan, results, your age and whether reclast was the first Osteoporosis drug you've been prescribed. If you haven't already shared it on the forum can you share or let me know where it is posted. There is so much to learn from each of our stories. Thanks

What did your doctor have to say about your pain? How are you now?

He says reclasp could not have caused it…Ha! Started the night after reclasp infusion. Was awful at first…wound up in emergency room at first. After a week or so was reduced to a daily pain that lets me continue to function. Every now and then my wrists and fingers hurt…but back pain is constant.

14 months after first infusion, still pain, just not as intense! It also seem to be attacking other parts of my body with a lameness! Hopefully it eventually goes away! Stay as active as possible is my moto and I will not receive any more treatment!

Endocrinologist doctor said that the Reclast did not do this and recommended that I go to Rheumatology because I have some other issues! And continue to recommend that I have another infusion! NOPE

Will you be following reclast with another bone drug? If not what is the treatment plan going forward. What is your doc recommending?

My PCP suggested another Reclast! Nope! Going solo! I felt fine before the infusion and hope to again as my body fights off the infusion. A lot like the Covid vaccine, have the vaccine and still get Covid! From now on I’ll stay away from treatment until I have the ailment
