Is anyone going with hormone therapy alone?

Husband has Gleason 9. Cancer is contained in the prostate. Radiation from 2013 cancer makes surgery now risky bc of fibrosis and not healing. Has been on Lupron for 3 months, another shot Sept. 4 weeks in bicludimyde. He also has a colostomy from 2013, so it has to be open surgery. We are very concerned about no surgery and going hormone therapy alone. Surgery is 2 weeks and we wanna cancel.

I am 77. I’ve had hot flashes for the last nine years while I’ve been on ADT.

When I first started having hot flashes nine years ago, I would Feel fatigue as the hot flash came on. I used to drink ice water and use a fan to cool off.

One year after I started ADT my oncologist told me that getting a depo-provera Would help. I got one and the hot flashes almost stopped, Until I went on Zytiga, and they came back, Just not as intense.

Well, nine years later, Orgovyx Has been giving me at least eight hot flashes a day with most of them, soaking my hair with sweat dripping into my eyes. Three weeks ago I got a depo-provera shot. My hot flashes didn’t stop, but the intensity has dropped dramatically. Now they only last a couple of minutes and I don’t get real sweaty, unless I exercise by going to the gym or walking on the track. There are other hormones that can help speak to your doctor about this.

I have an embrlabs.com wave product (wave 2). I’ve used it for Over three years now. It’s like a refrigerator that looks like a watch and sits on the inside of your wrist. You could set up one of the buttons for their night mode . Hit the button twice and It Produces cold waves at measured times during the night and prevents hot flashes and night sweats. They used to bug me, before I got this device . When you start to feel a hot flash coming on, you hit another one of the buttons twice and it sends cold chills through your arms and it reduces the intensity, shortens the life and can stop the hot flashes if hit quickly enough. They do have a 60 day money back guarantee.

Thank you so much for this. Can I ask if you considered surgery? We had a
surgery date and we've put it off until we explore more options. We speak
for the first time with oncology this week, up until now only the urologist
who put onto ADT.. being Lupron. We'll definitely check out the link.
Thanks again for your help

In 2010 I was 62 and a biopsy showed Gleason 3+4. Had surgery, after surgery they told me it was a 4+3. It was only stage two. 3.5 Years later it came back and I had radiation. 2 1/2 years later it came back and I went on Lupron. I became castrate resistant 2.5 years later and added biclautamide. 1 year later went on Zytiga, which kept my PSA down for 2 1/2 years., After some AFIB Issues I switched over to Nubeqa, The last 20 months I’ve been undetectable. I became stage four about six years ago, had a metastasis on my spine zapped. I did not find out I was BRCA2 Until four years ago. That explains why my cancer keeps coming back.

My husband had Proton therapy 6 years ago for prostate cancer. Had no problems with it but cancer returned 5 years later. Surgery is not an option per his doctors advice because of the previous radiation, bad out ways the good. He is going through hormone therapy using ORGOVYX. He is having frequent hot flashes he says he can deal with however I see him going through extreme tiredness, not feeling like himself, and depression. (He has been on meds for depression for years.) I hate seeing him not being able to do things like he use to. Gets extremely tired after an hour or so of work. He is 76 by the way. Anyone else going through this and have any advice?

The tiredness and depression may be feeding off of each other. Try scheduling several small naps during the day, (like after lunch); establish an exercise routine, even if it's just half hour walks. Plan a trip somewhere to give him something to which he can look forward.
