Acid Reflux and its Symptoms: Are they chronic?
Does anyone have a variety of symptoms associated with Acid Reflux that are chronic? Such as chest pain, back pain, weird tastes, etc.? Please tell me your symptoms. A little worried here...thinking it may be something more serious.

@mwarenski, how have you been managing your symptoms? Have you had to make significant diet changes?
I have what is called "LPR" Laryngopharyngeal reflux. I have no burning. I have excessive mucous in my throat and sinuses. I drink about 1/2 bottle of antacid. I avoid what the experts say such as chocolate, dairy, acidic foods and other things. However, it does not help. The antacid helps about 1/2 the time. There is that new surgery but once you have it, they say very few people cannot vomit if they get sick. Others say they have more trouble swallowing. So I'm pretty much up a creek. I've tried Ginger, baking soda. It isn't any worse if I lay down. I just hack and cough a lot. I sometimes don't eat just to keep it from reoccurring. Thanks for your inquiry.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I've also been hearing of this surgery and the end results. A couple of cautions I would add are the ginger and baking soda. Ginger is a 'hot' spice that might make it worse (but good for a woozy tummy sometimes) and I've been told by my gastro doc that the baking soda will bleach your bones! Sadly, it's the fastest thing out there for painful gas. One product I've tried lately is Phazyme - it's good for BOTH gas and acid and the chewable works fast. So far I've only been able to buy it at Rite Aid and not the big box stores. I've only recently seen TV ads for it. I'm assuming you've been tested for allergies or rhinositus that might be causing the excess mucous? Thanks for your comments as it's helpful to me as well as I continue my own journey to better health! Take care. LadySky
Thanks for your info. Allergies were the first thing I thought of. It was not allergies. I went to an ENT Dr. who knew it was "Silent Reflux" and prescribed PPI's. I've tried all the PPI's but none work.

I went to med school for Eastern Western medicine believe it or not Fresh lemon water neutralizes the acid because of its alkaline properties! There are recipes on Pinterest look under acid reflux remedies also Apple Cider Vinegar Bragg's it's cloudy with natural honey you can get the Vinegar in supermarket ! Pinterest has all of these it's about pH levels it will work always warm water with fresh squeezed lemon in am also cleanses liver and pancreas ! Google acid and alkaline charts ,Sugar is acidic feel better and you will nexium causes bone loss and now tied into renal aka kidney problems ! Have a great Day!!! D
Thanks for the info. Vinegar did not help.

Hi @mwarenski, both my Mayo GI and Mayo Pulmonary doctors told me that GERD can cause asthma. Perhaps that could possibly explain chest pain that you are experiencing.
I was diagnosed with mild asthma as a result of GERD, but since I had surgery to correct the GI issues that were causing my GERD, my asthma subsided, as expected. My primary GERD symptoms would be waking up choking on stuff that had come up from my stomach while I was sleeping in addition to having heartburn constantly.
Thanks but I don't have Asthma.

I wrote about this in the past. I did have the LINX procedure, it does have it's problems but does keep the acid down. The problem is if you eat foods that cause gas the gas puts pressure on the device and can be painful. If you have a compromised LES nothing will stop the acid from going up your esophagus and into your sinuses. The cough used to make me vomit!. I found out after the fact that I was fructose intolerant and that any fruit would produce gases, the gases push the acid up. The LINX now stops it from passing the LES but like I said can cause discomfort but not nearly as bad as the burping, bleching ,coughing, ect without it. All these acid reflux diets promote fruit and I love it but try going fruit and fructose free for a few days. It also lowered my blood sugar! I was tested for this at MAYO and it was negative but found out these tests are not reliable. It often takes a day for the fruit to cause problems due to the fact if you don't have the enzyme to break it down it ferments and causes the gas. My gas was so bad I was undateable! Now that is under control also. You can google fructose intolerance or go to pubmed.com
@saucy Interesting... they weren't able to do a LINX on me... they said my hernia was too large. With the LINX in there, are you able to have MRIs?
