Apparently my friend's cancer has spread: How can I help him?

Posted by MommaCandy @mommacandy, May 25, 2024

For those of you who had been following my friend's journey, after his surgery they told us they believed they got it all, wanted him to do radiation "just in case" etc...he's halfway through the radiation treatments and the latest CT scan shows 3 spots in his liver and his CA 19 is back above 10k...so waiting to hear from oncologist about next steps but radiation doc basically said its uncurable and at most prob 36 months IF it responds to chemo..
he is VERY down...he's already thinking funeral plans etc...how can i help him???

I spent time this week with the developers of a new website, Trican.org

This is extremely user friendly in looking for clinical trials. The business model is a good one. Highly recommend you check it out. Easy to navigate. Currently it only searches for pancreatic cancer trials.

Can I ask, which type of chemo were you on?
My mum has pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, initially diagnosed stage 3 borderline resectable, was put on gemcitabine/abraxane initially but the tumour grew, then switched to modified Folfirinox with dose reduction due to age, after 3 cycles, repeat scans showed new liver lesion 1cm and the activity index of the primary tumour has increased. We are now looking to arrange another biopsy to hopefully fine a genetic mutation so that she will be eligible for some sort of immunotherapy. The oncology team did suggest to switch her to Onivyde+5FU but I am not sure for someone who did not respond to Gem/Abrax and Folfirinox, whether there will be response to Onivyde+5FU. Would be grateful for any responses.

he was on gem/abrax...but he passed away last Oct...he opted to not pursue trials etc but instead to have quality for his remaining time, which truly i understood.
