Anyone experiencing muscle atrophy/muscle wasting due to Long COVID?

Posted by tatjohns @tatjohns, Dec 2, 2024

I have long covid (2 1/2 years) and have been experiencing progressive muscle atrophy/muscle wasting which is unrelated to inactivity. To the contrary, I have tried to stay very active with walking, swimming, resistance training, but none of it does any good. The muscle atrophy continues and is debilitating. The head of the local long covid clinic said I was the only patient out of the 3,000 patients he has seen in LC clinic with this symptom.

I’m having some similar issues after close to a year. Any connections?

Thank you so much for the encouragement! How do I find this Dr. Paul Anderson. I do take several supplements already, but am curious what he suggests and see if I’m on the right path. If there’s a specific web site, I’d like to know of it. Thank you again!

I have Long Covid for over 2.5 years with a significant uptick in symptoms recently that on top of new auto immune Sjogren’s Disease with strange joint flares and redness and swelling in the ankles, significant digestive dysfunction and difficulty swallowing and unusual abdominal distention, now with new and unpredictable food sensitivities and suspected histamine intolerances that cause severe bloating, itchy skin and trapped gas that might be SIBO, Was tested for MCAS-Mast Cell Activation Syndrome a few months back and was negative, yet suspect something is off with that and other immune system components. Many regular providers are not informed about the possible damage that Covid can do in their specialties. The medical process is not timely in any way and is challenging to say the least. So thankful for this format and testiments of real world Long Covid affected people which offers validation and information that is very lacking elsewhere. Wishes for strength and healing to all fellow Long Haulers- Don’t give up and keep pushing through for answers!

I can’t wait to hear…why does he know and no other doctors know? I hope this is real and not false information. You never know who to listen to or believe any more.

That is a perfect description of my arms. It’s bad enough that they were just skinny; now they wobble like a drunken sailor. Thanks for making me feel better. 😘

What covid clinic said that to you?? I'm horrified they would do that. New studies are showing that Covid has impacted the mitochondria and actually is clogging up the smaller blood vessels and tiny veins such that the more you exercise, the more tissue dies because the muscle is not being delivered enough oxygen . This is likely the reason for Post-exertion malaise (POTS). it's assumed to be the reason why people with long covid are experiencing dental problems, their are very small veins in your mouth, and without enough nutrients getting to your teeth, people are having their teeth fall out without any pain , the root has simply died. My son just experienced this last week and is facing oral surgery.
