Does anyone have a solution to help manage Reclast side effects?

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15, 2024

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

@chuckster1957 Perhaps it would be helpful for you to know about a positive experience. I had my first Reclast infusion in May 2025 and have had no side effects whatsoever thus far. The infusion team at the center I go to told me that they rarely receive reports about severe side effects from their patients. As always with these medications, you just never know how your body will react. Wishing you all the best moving forward!

@chuckster1957 I'm so glad to hear that. You're very welcome. People tend to come here to find out about potential problems and side effects, and they often end up only reading posts that address those. Luckily, there are also many posts about positive experiences and great benefits if you seek them out.

Thank you for posting your positive experience.. I agree patients should hear those as well.. the ones of us that are experiencing the worst of course are here trying to find answers.. which I hear effects only 1-2% of patients!
Important to hand an open conversation of all side effects, even the low percentage, you could be I. That category!
I’m so glad it was successful for you .. thank you for your comment … I need to be more positive seems I’m pretty negative at this point because of my pain..so thank you for sharing the positive thoughts!!! Hugs to you!!

@annms01 Thank you so much for your kind words - that's very generous of you. I'm so sorry you've had a rough go of it! Unfortunately, there's no way to predict that and you're absolutely right, I could have been you. I've been lucky so far, but who knows if I will experience side effects later on? I'm very grateful for those who talk about that aspect of treatment - it's vital for us since our care team rarely discusses potential side effects and also seem to be unaware of how to treat them. Just remember we're here for you and you'll get through this. You sound like you're very resilient even though I'm sure it doesn't feel that way when you're in pain!
Best wishes to you moving forward!

PLEASE be very careful. Reclast is POISON! I had to go on Reclast to relay off of 1 Prolia shot. 12 hours after Reclast I passed out. No warning no nothings. Then I was so sick for about a week with a fever chills, sweating, pain all over Trembling. The nurse at my Dr said it’s not from Reclast. My Dr said no more Reclast for you. I am very limited on what I can take as I had Gastric Bypass yrs ago. My CTX score is 490. Even tho my Dr said it’s ok, I’m still worried because it should be around 200s.

I messaged both my endocrinologist and rheumatologist about the adverse reaction to Reclast. I’ll post their responses, and report it to the FDA.

I am so sorry that reclast was poison for your body. However, for other bodies it may be just fine. Good luck on your bone journey.

Please! Research thoroughly before you go ahead! FDA should be stepping up with All the potential side effect

If you feel that you are suffering from these medications long term to report that to FDA.
For on-line reporting to FDA: https://www.fda.gov/safety/medwatch-fda-safety-information-and-adverse-event-reporting-program
For phone reporting: 1-800-FDA-1088.

There is a lot of information online on Reclast side effects- drugs.com, the FDA and Pfizer's own drug insert: https://labeling.pfizer.com/ShowLabeling.aspx?format=PDF&id=4676
In addition to the brief info below, Pfizer has a thorough chart with every side effect and frequency reported. Not sure why doctors don't look at this.

I’m still having whole body pain and it’s 9 months since I had the Reclast. My knees hurt and they never hurt before. My legs from Knees down will hurt then they pop. Happens if I’m just sitting also. I don’t know what to do about it or who to see anymore.

With the number of people reporting long-tern adverse reactions, maybe we should be pressuring the manufacturer to develop an antidote.
