How about someone who laughs at your hearing loss and two other times said they thought I had selective hearing. I finally said it was rude and now I feel terrible.

I had to laugh...good for you girl!

You are not being rude. They are the ones who are rude. Respond back sternly to anyone who says you have selective hearing. Educate them about speaking while facing you…one to one dialogue..noisy environments etc. Tell them it would be wonderful to be able to hear everyone in any type of situation but unfortunately you can’t. Ask them why would anyone chose not to hear and you would be glad to explain the difficulties you encounter navigating life and how it affects you
every minute of every day…if they are interested in learning more about hearing loss. And don’t ever let anyone say “never mind”. Are you not important enough to have it repeated? Do all this with a smile on your face. It is a two way street and you need to advocate for yourself without being overbearing.
This sage advice come to you from someone who had 45 plus years of hearing loss……me😉
There are some people who will never understand and don’t make the effort to do so. You don’t need the added stress and they are not friends.
You can tell I am very very vocal about this when necessary…also.sometimes you have to let things go and you will get better at it.

Thank you Mary.
I actually went to UCH which is the premier hospital in the Denver area. I found their audiology department far superior to Hear USA and other franchises. I had to pay out of pocket but it was well worth it.
I would suggest you go this route.
Good luck to you.
