Should I still have a lot of pain and stiffness 10 months after TKR?

Still a lot of pain, stiffness and swelling 10 months after TKR. Is this normal? I had a problem with arthrofibrosis and had mua after 10 weeks. Does this ever go away?

No infection but just sharp pain and nerve pain no matter what I do

Have you asked your PA/Surgions to have your knee checked for fluid? They can ultrasound it to see it. If you haven't, I suggest you do. If you have fluid, I would ask them to aspirate it and TEST the fluid for infecton. Not all surgeons like to aspirate post TKR because it can start an infection.

My surgeon woud not listen to me and waited 10 months to hear me. I had some of the same symtoms as you - plus some additonal symptoms that he ignored. I had the classic infection symptoms - Night sweats, hot to touch, very stiff, didn't want to bend hardly at all. It was swollen, red and the nerve pain was so bad, I could not touch the knee with any pants or sheets at night.

Finally, after getting a 2nd opinion from a surgeon in another city - that surgeon did a bone scan and saw the infection. I strongly suggest you get your surgeons office to confirm you do not have an infection. or go to a sports med doc ( try a non surgeon) for a 2nd opinion.

Before I found out I had an infection I did- cupping, accupuncture, massage and lots and lots of PT. I was still very stiff and could not get ROM beyond 65-75. Yet my surgeon wouldn't belive me.My PA is amazing - she did believe me and was been a gem. My PT knew is was infected with in 2 months of my first TKR. She mentioned it in her progress notes to him!

I am 10 months out from my 2nd TKR on the same knee due to the infection. I am still very stiff due to the fact I had 4 proceedures on it last year. It's a slow go and still very stiff and inflammed. He said he will not do anything until I am a year out from the 2nd TKR. Tick Tock!

The PA just put me on a 35 day track of Prednisone. It is helping. It makes my back feel great. That has hurt due to the limping for 2 yrs.

Trust your gut. You know your body/ knee best!

I messaged the surgeon and called. No response yet. I think they basically “throw the baby out with the bath water”
Don’t think they care at all.

GP ORDEREDED AN ULRASOUND. MUCH TENDENITIS. MULTIPUL CALCIFIED BODIES AROUND KNEE JOINT. HE WILL DISCUSS IT WITH ANOTHER SPECIALIST AND WILL REFER ME TO ANOTHER KNEE SURGEON. STIFFNESS NOW EXPLAINED, BUT NOW WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. KEYHOLE SURGERY SEEMS TO BE AN OPTION. NO BURSITIS. I AM FOLLOWING YOUR GUIDE LINE REGARDING PT AND EXERCISES. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS HAD KEYHOLE SURGERY.

I had the same symptoms, and by the end of 9 months I was at the end of my rope emotionally and physically. Then by chance I went back to a physiatrist who had treated me for hip bursitis with sonar shockwave therapy in the past before knee replacement. I asked if he knew what to do for a leg that wouldn't heal from joint replacement. He asked about the symptoms, then reached over and touched two places around my knee. Ouch! Then he told me I had knee bursitis. Then he located some hip bursitis, and then he checked the IT band and found it was all inflamed. His background in sports medicine gave him a lot of experience with soft tissue injuries. It took 6 shockwave sessions, but he cured it all. Now I walk every day and feel like a new person. Turns out the exercises I was trained to do were all irritating the bursas and the IT band. Now he has me just walking short distances at an easy pace every day. I also do some stretches, but that's all I should do for several months. All those soft tissues have to heal. Four other doctors before him missed the diagnosis. I just finally got lucky in my choice of doctor. Some of us take longer to heal, and the same therapy program doesn't fit everyone's needs or abilities. I don't know what's causing your leg to hurt so, but keep trying doctors with different specialties that include legs. Someone will figure out what is causing your problems eventually. Don't give up. The misery you are feeling is a sign that something is truly wrong. Good luck.

Where is your physiatrist group located, I am in Minneapolis. One year post TKR. Can play Tennis, golf and Pickleball but every rotation when biking is painful. And forget about hiking. We used to go to the BWCAW but can't trust my knee.Tried pilates classes but difficult to get down/up from the floor.

I had two knee surgeries on left knee. Surgeon placed nickel that I was allergic to and my implant size is wrong. My experience is once they do surgery they do not even recognize you or your problem. I am suffering for three and half year I am much worse and more pain than before surgery. Good luck and prayers for you.
