Post meningioma surgery: Daily pain, puffy/discolored eyes, drainage

Posted by rajincajunmom @rajincajunmom, Feb 4, 2017

I have daily head pain and my surgery was in November. The blood pressure medicine I'm on causes my eyes to be puffy and discoloration like a black eye. Also, I'm having sinus drainage. Is this normal? I feel hopeless and alone.

I am so sorry you are dealing with so much pain. As a registered nurse, and recent brain tumor surgery survivor I think it would be wise to discuss these symptoms with your medical team. Especially if your sinus drainage is clear and thin as this may be spinal fluid. Also, you may be able to change B/P medication to something you tolerate a bit better. I too have some mild pains from my surgery Dec 30th, but nothing to your extent. I really hope you feel better soon! I too have felt very alone since my surgery, but I promise you, you are not alone. Hang in there xoxoxo

Thank you for mentioning that the BP meds make your eyes puffy and your nose stream. I've been on BP for several months now and couldn't figure out why my eyes and nose are so reactive! Robbin R.
And you are not alone. I'm sorry you feel lonely, but that is a state of mind that you can change. You've joined this fine organization and you've already helped one person - me!

Thank you so much for the feedback. I see that I'm not alone. This is hard to explain to family and my children. They make me feel as if I'm crazy.

That is what family and children are for; to test your inner resolve and not let them make you think you are crazy and to try to Make you crazy.
They are not the ones in pain. You are. Soldier on. We might have to use ourselves as human sandbags to protect our loved ones when the fighting starts!

You are not alone. If you are in daily pain, as I am, my advice to you is to find a good pain management doctor who will treat your pain and not treat you like a drug seeker. Good luck.

That's exactly how I'm being treated. I asked my PCP to refer me and haven't heard a word back from him. Not to mention the fact that the surgeon ignored me and just told me he put a plate in my head. I'm trying to see another surgeon in another state. I've never been treated so horrible before in my life! Thank you!

That is unfortunate but it happens. Check with your cancer center and see if they manage chronic pain there. That was what worked for me. And they don't treat you that way at all. Everyone deserves pain relief whatever it takes. Keep trying. Good luck.
