Why would open-heart be last resort? I will examine options but not a proponent of throwing meds at symptoms

@cnow, I totally agree with you about "throwing meds at symptoms" instead of "fixing" the root cause.
Unfortunately, with a genetic condition being the root cause of HCM, there is no fix.
It is managed by meds to control symptoms. You can't cure a genetic disease.
Open heart surgery is the last result, and done when there is a severe obstruction of the LVOT.
It sounds like you are only in the beginning stages of learning what you may or may not have.
I hope you get some answers soon.
It's no fun wondering what in the world is wrong with you!

I would like to share my experience with you regarding Camzyos for HCOM. I am hesitant to be on any medication. Having declared that, I must tell you that Camzyos has changed my life. "Throwing medication" called Camzyos at my HCOM has allowed me to maintain an active life and control my heart symptoms. One cardiologist told me it was the answer to not having an open heart surgery. I was born with HCOM and mitral valve regurgitation so the "root" cause can't be addressed. I am so grateful for the way I feel and can "live" my life by simply taking Camzyos. I am taking the maximum dose since I have severe HCOM, but you may be able to take a very small dose and live an active life. I encourage you to keep the possibility of taking Camzyos in your "tool belt" since it is an amazing option. Good luck to you as you explore your options and read this blog to gather facts and hear the stories of people on this journey. JOY!
