Has anyone tried acupuncture for neuropathy?

Posted by Nancy Banks @banksnc49, Jun 27, 2018

I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

My doctor said that at best it's only temporary, and insurance won't cover the expenses.

I think Medicare will cover so many visits if needed

My husband has non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy. He has tried many things, but we’re wondering now about Acupuncture has anyone tried it and with what success? His legs are not in pain. They are uncomfortable and twitchy as he tries to go to sleep at night and continues during the daytime.

I have chemo induced neuropathy in my hands and feet. I tried acupuncture to no avail. I had 10 expensive sessions. Very relaxing but no help.

Thanks for your response. It seems it either helps for a bit, or not at all.

The twitchiness is something I experience as Restless Leg Syndrome. Very annoying condition that interferes with sleep. If I can come in down, the neuropathy is also more settled.
Does anyone have suggestions to stop Restless Legs?

Welcome @lajoksd2nd, I'm not sure anyone can really answer your question with any certainty. I would be asking the same question if it were me. @kathan55, @erichendrix and @pat2628 have mentioned foot drop following CIPN treatment and may have some thoughts to share with you. There are also quite a few discussions on foot drop that you might find helpful. Here's a search link that lists the foot drop discussions - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/discussions/?search=foot%20drop.

Has anyone done acupuncture to treat the symptoms? If so, does it work?
