Somatic Testing
My MO ordered a somatic test. I already had a germline test and showed no mutations. Anybody here have somatic testing and did it change specific treatment plans or did it just confirm things that were already known?

Thanks Phil, MO said something about Abiraterone + Prednisone at our 1st appt the other day. I think she is waiting for foundation One test plus I have a PSMA PET scan today. I’ll bring this up again next Wednesday (8/6) at our next appt where I also begin ADT Firmagon.
Good! Also, just read some VERY positive things about Darolutamide and how it may obviate the need for chemo in many cases and avoid triplet form of therapy. I’ll see if I can post a link.

Here it is John, give it a read…

Is BRCA1/2 found through somatic testing or genetic testing? If through genetic testing, I’ve heard that it will always be there, and never need to retest. If through somatic testing, then it might change over time.
I think you have it right Brian.
BRCA2 can be found in the hereditary genetic test, In that case, it would be in the somatic genetic test as well. Both of them are genetic tests.
People who do not have BRCA2 in their hereditary test, can have it in their somatic test. Over at Ancan.org we’ve had a few people over the years that have had this occur.
Apparently, my urology oncologist stays pretty current. He started me on this therapy 3 days after this ASCO meeting. I may have to keep him. 😁
Just a reminder that MSKCC runs free genetic testing via the PROMISE registry:

Jeff- do they use biopsy cells to do somatic genetic testing ?
Good luck tomorrow John ! Keeping my fingers crossed and sending healing vibes that PSMA does not find anything new .
Thanks Surfer!!
Image doesn’t look that much different from the PSMA scan I had on March 27. Before my prostatectomy and lymphadenectomy. I was fearing the worse (as I commonly do). Still waiting for report. I’m hoping the white parts between my kidneys and bladder are parts of my ureter.
