Internal body vibrations all night

Posted by cst @cst, May 11, 2024

My entire body started vibrating internally 3 months ago (Feb 2024) at night. I take 300-600 mg gabapentin each night and it helps some. I’ve been blessed with incredible health my entire life, although I have had some neck problems (stenosis) recently, starting in Dec 2023; two TFESIs made it better. I am 59 yo and recent Air Force retire. I am fairly certain I don’t have any underlying conditions (diabetes, autoimmune, HIV, Lyme, etc). Rheumatologist doesn’t think I have autoimmune; getting a second opinion soon. Neurologist “can’t rule out SFN” so I just gave blood and have a nerve conduction test scheduled.

Q: Anybody have similar experience with internal vibrations all night long?
Sometimes I can feel them somewhat during day. If so, please share your experience.

Yes, seronegative autoimmune diseases do exist. Given your Hashimoto’s (and its seronegativity—yes?), autoimmunity should be high in the differential.

Hmm, just saw an article about a combination of myelitis and myositis being induced by Covid. It’s rare, but your symptoms are rare, so maybe it’s worth a shot.

Best of luck with NIH. As I’ve said before, I hope you get answers.

Yes!I just have to find a Rhuematologist or specialists that will look into seronegative I was looking at Sjogrens because of my extremely dry painful eyes and constant dry cough that came on with all my symptoms.I had no idea Sjogrens could cause walking problems.I thought that was just dry eyes and dry mouth.I think I have more than one thing going on unfortunately.

I have Sjogren’s—sort of. I’m Ro-SSA positive but don’t have very dry eyes/mouth. So I’m kind of the inverse of you. Sjogren’s can be associated with myelitis, more so than lupus. It is even more commonly associated with peripheral neuropathies. Any of these neuro complications can cause difficulty walking. Believe me, I know—unfortunately.

I hope NIH can help. You’re definitely seeing the best of the best.

i get that at night in my stomach, and sometimes my feet. I take meclizine for it and it stops. Sometimes this happens during the day too. Strange feeling!

On Feb 20, at night, my entire body started vibrating/buzzing/trembling starting when I try to fall asleep and lasting all night. My PCP prescribed gabapentin, which allows me to sleep some.

I am 59 and have no health issues except for this. I have always taken good care of my self (diet, sleep, exercise, non smoker, etc).

I saw a rheumatologist who doesn’t think I have autoimmune; I am getting a second opinion June 6.

I saw a neurologist May 7 who “couldn’t rule out SFN” so she ordered blood work that all came back negative or within normal limits. Since May 7 appointment with her, my feet started tingling and experiencing warm waves for about 5 seconds. I have also been light headed in last 10 days. Somewhat fatigued.

As of yesterday, May 25, I am feeling weird sensations all over my body - chest, neck, face, arms, calf, shoulders, etc. I have a nerve conduction test scheduled Jun 7 and a biopsy punch June 10. I see a different neurologist in Austin Texas on Jun 26 (for second opinion). I am thinking about making appointments at Mayo in Minnesota. Peripheral neuropathy is a term I never heard of until a couple weeks ago.

Anybody know or understand what I am experiencing? My symptoms seem to be moving fast and not so localized like most in this group. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. This is all very scary right now.

I have had something similar but only on my right stroke-affected side. No definitive answers. Just medications and suggested PT.

Hey there, I’m still struggling to find out the cause of my internal Vibrations. It all started in mid Sept of 2020, I’ve been to numerous Drs. Neurology, MRI’s and numerous tests and just had another MRI on brain and lumbar. Everything looks fine the Dr says. So I’m anxious moreover now to find out what these are. I’m 63 and these started in my left foot in Sept 2020, buzzing so hard and loud. 24/7..Well by the time Nov. Got here the vibrations went up to my knees on both sides, then by the time Dec. , these Vibrations moved up to my high waist. So yeah, I feel them in my crotch or rather full butt area. Can’t sleep for these. Actually I didn’t sleep last night. I have a hugh log of insomnia noted and I’m sure it’s from these Vibrations. It feels grinding to the trunk of my body. There’s been a small number of times where they did calm down. Like having TKR, they stopped for a few days. I had an occipital nerve block, it lasted 3 weeks till the vibrations came back. Then this Jan. I had emergency Colon obstruction surgery and the vibrations stopped for 5 weeks. Then I got sick last year with bronchitis and put on meds, steroids and they too stopped for roughly 5 weeks. But when they came back it was as if BAMM they hit me with a vengeance. Still the high grinding speed and I swear I can hear them now, as this Sept. will be 4 years. I’ve been to U of M Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Henry Ford Hospital to seek Neurology’s help. I was told a year ago May have to seek The Mayo Clinic. Now what can they do so I started researching here for help. I’m finding I’m not the only one suffering from these. So with all these other people suffering from these, then how come I’ve not seen any solutions from these people? Wondering if something drastic happened to them where’d they gave up and checked out. Believe me, if it hadn’t been for my strong family and faith I probably wouldn’t be here myself. So I’m hoping there’s still hope that someone can come forward and tell what their solutions was. 🤔 it messes with my Body, to function, to even walk, I struggle feeling like I may fall over with balance issues. The only thing that shows up is a cyst in my spine, a Sprinx, I’ve seen it but they can’t say if it’s causing the vibrations. Or could it be from a pinched nerve, a Vagus Nerve. I’ve even took diff Vitamins that I never took to see if I was low on anything. Not really, but still playing around with it. One Dr says to take Vitamin B2, it’s hard to find in stores. Guess I’ll check Amazon next. But if you have any other ideas please ask and surely some of us suffering from internal Vibrations can most likely figure out to help others like us and find some sort of healing to get rid of these. I did have a diff. Occipital nerve block few weeks ago, which my Vibrations did act differently, they came in spurts, plus mainly at my crotch, now as a woman, if it was only this area I might give up on finding help to get rid of these. But after the block wearing off now, it’s full on feet up to my higher waist buzzing. It’s terrible to go to sleep with these and wake up with them. So yes, it’s a 24/7 continuous thing. So I pray somebody has found help and getting rid of these and can share their thoughts with the rest of us. Thanks and God Bless.

I feel your frustration. I have had my vibrations for 6 months, and am in the black hole of medical apathy. I feel like a human petrie dish. Also am experiencing numbness and tingling in hands and feet. Stopped taking meds as it was just a “might as well” prescription process that produced more problems ( brain fog, dizziness, extreme tiredness) than I wanted to take on. Sick of the blank stare when I go to another “specialist” when I describe these night vibrations.
I even made a phone appointment with the Mayo Clinic (our chat room host), and the person I talked with said she had never heard of this, and could not find reference to it in their data base.
Woke up this morning in tears because the vibrations wake me every night just when I go into deep sleep, and persist until I am pretty much awake. When I get up, I feel beaten up from the inside. Made an appointment with a neurologist, but the soonest available appointment is in 6 months. Beginning to think that this is to be my life.
What in the world is going on with health care in this country?

I got tremor 3 months into long covid. It was internal, not visible. They worsened from being just at night and just along my spine to being full body all the time. I finally saw a neurologist who prescribed 100 mg Gabapentin 2 x a day - to quiet a Neurological system that was "whipped up". It took two days to eliminate the vibrations by 99% . So grateful. It was uncomfortable and terrifying and doctor after doctor wouldn't address it. Tremor or vibrations or buzzing is now in the list of common long covid symptoms compiled by Yale.

Hello,
I’m so sorry for what you’re experiencing and I hope you’ll find something that will help.
I was diagnosed and confirmed with axonal large fiber peripheral neuropathy February of this year. It’s absolutely progressing and there’s no cure for it but hit and miss treatments to slow it down if we find the right one. I have burning, tingling, numbness and pain.
During the night, all hell breaks loose as if I am a different person than the day. However, I’ve also had essential tremors for some years now and when I have sudden things occurring because of peripheral neuropathy, I notice that the tremors become quite pronounced. Have you ever been tested for tremors? I’m just wondering.
I wish you the best.
Take care and have a serene weekend,
gus
