I'm concerned I won't make it through the Temodar course
I'm at Mayo now and my neuro-oncologist has me beginning the chemo pills (Temodar) after my radiation treatment is over on August 4th. I'd stay here for it, but I'd need to have a caretaker with me if I wanted to stay in the Hope Lodge or who they partner with if there's room. I'm already vomiting from the radiation treatment. When I had to have an infusion for hydration, the nurse told me that it's really bad with chemo. I'm afraid I won't be able to get through it. I have Glioblastoma Multiforme, so I wonder if I should even put myself through it. I'll certainly try. I'm thinking about checking out if I can be in a rehab while I'm taking it, so there are people around 24/7. Has anyone done anything like that?

Good that you will try the chemotherapy. My husband with the same diagnosis as yours was on TMZ for a year with no side effects except being tired. Of course every person is different. Good luck and blessings to you.
It's worth trying. My husband has had two surgeries, radiation and chemo. He is now out 28 months from the first surgery which is longer than average. I'm grateful to still have him with me and I don't know how much longer he will be with me but every day is a blessing for both him and me. It's a rough road so I hope you have friends and family to give you emotional support. It's good to get on this support group to know what others are feeling. Prayers for you. I know everyone in this group or here for you in any way we can.
Stay positive, no matter what! Don't let the medical field or what you are going through control your thoughts and emotions. Read up on Glioblastoma Multiforme but If you can, don't follow-up on your condition, especially if it is all negative. Find happiness in everything you can and will continue to do, even during your treatment....it works!
God Bless!
I’m surprised the nurse was so negative about Temodar. My husband took 10 courses of it and tolerated it without incident.
It is critical to take the anti nausea medication as instructed before you take the chemo pills. My husband had zero nausea, ever. And, it worked for a good time.
Good luck!🍀
I did 6 5-day cycles of Temodar, took a zofran an hour before. Never felt nauseous, never missed a day of work.
I have brain cancer similar to GBM but with no co-hort (Not Elsewhere Classified), so the same treatment. My experience was that the radiation was the worst part of the treatment. I am now in the adjuvant phase, and so far, so good, other than experiencing fatigue, and some brain fog and balance issues. I follow the timing of my eating, the Zophran, and the Temodar very carefully, using a timer on my watch, according to instructions and go to sleep as soon as I take the Temodar. The one time I didn't, I got very nauseated and vomited. Good luck and hang in there. Once you're about 2-3 weeks out from the radiation, things start to improve.
I agree with your practice of setting an alarm on taking the anti nausea meds at the recommended time before the temadar. that worked for me. And I never was nauseous.
the only downside is that it reduced my platelets count to almost 0. After a few infusions not making enough increase, the doctors decided that Temedar was no longer a good fit for me and I stopped after three weeks.
I am a Glioblastoma Stage 4 survivor where I have been through everything that you are facing. When taking Temodar, make sure you take it with a juice of your choice and try to keep the pills away from the gums of your mouth, because you can get sores all over your inside of your mouth.
1. Put the liquid in your mouth and immediately, with the fluid, you will flush down the Temodar pill one pill at a time!
2. Your local dentist office can give special toothpaste that will have a special treatment or medicine in the toothpaste. It is recommended as a prescription that gets rid of the sores coming from the use of Temodar. Brushing your teeth with this prescription toothpaste will take away the mouth sores after a few days of consistent use.
