Hi Sam,

Yeah 46 is really young for a total knee replacement. I had mine done when I was 67 and it was because I was in constant pain. But my knees started to get bad when I was around your age. I ran my last marathon in 1999, and I last ran in 2003. I managed to get by with non-impact training.

If you don't have significant daily pain, and you can work around any limitations from the knee, by all means hold off for a while. I wish you all the best!

Hey Sam,
I agree with @ heyjoe415 when he said you were too young. I’m 81 and just had my second TKR but I think I held out too long. I played organized basketball for 25 years and my knees supported me well. But now it’s my turn to support them.
Get a good orthopedic doctor and then get a second opinion. An old man’s advice. Just remember:”Wisdom comes with age…sometimes age comes alone”
